EVS-volunteer from United Kingdom told about her project “Lastochki Office”

My name is Sophie, I’m 21 years old and I am from England. I’m currently helping in the Lastochki office and I have been here for 8 months already! I really love my project and this city and will miss it a lot when I return to England.

I cannot describe a typical day at my project because every day is different! When I am in the office, I usually translate or correct documents, make posts on social media, prepare leaflets, communicate with the other volunteers or interview candidates.

But that’s not all! I also visit all our projects to collect signatures, take photos of the volunteers or just to speak with them. Sometimes I also help new volunteers by interpreting for them- I meet them at the airport, accompany them to their projects for the first time, help them buy sim cards etc. This allows me to communicate with lots of different people and to get to know the volunteers and our projects a bit better.

As well as this, I give presentations about our organization at various educational establishments, language clubs etc. I really like this kind of work because I meet lots of interesting people. I am also often invited to various events, such as English-language musical contests and Russian cultural evenings.

As you can see, I have very varied work and I like my project very, very much. It is also important to mention the people I work with and am friends with here. All the people I come into contact with here are very kind and friendly. All my colleagues, as well as my host family, were very welcoming and I am very grateful to them for that. I will miss them and Russia and am already thinking about how I’ll be able to come back here after my project! Thank you for everything!
