What does a gun heater look like? We choose an electric heat gun for the house and garage. Which heat gun to choose for a specific task

Heat guns are a mobile electric fan heater with which you can heat a garage, house or apartment. There are thermal guns of direct and indirect (indirect) heating. It is the second type of equipment that is considered safer and suitable for residential premises.

The thermal gun can be used in two different situations. It can be both the only and additional source of heat generation:

  • in the first case, during the winter, a household heat electric gun for the home is a great heater for the garage! And not only. In construction work, when fast intensive drying of the finish is needed, heat guns play an important role;
  • in the second case - there is work in the winter and in shops, and in offices, and in trade pavilions. Also, a large workshop of an enterprise or a hangar can be equipped with electric guns; many supermarkets use similar industrial directional fan heaters for heating.

Prices for heat guns vary, as there is a device for car parking, and there is one for the airport, warming up the runway.

For car owners, heat guns will play an excellent service (for example, Timberk TIH R2 5K). In severe frosts, not every car starts the first time. Therefore, the device for car rooms performs the main service in warming up a frozen car. Literally in 10 minutes, a hot stream directed to the hood from a heat gun brings the car into a combat-ready state. Especially popular are guns with a timer and thermostat, which do not require constant monitoring of the operation of the unit.

There is another option. Often among men there are lovers - car mechanics. Such men do not leave their locksmith machines in technical rooms, even in severe frost. A garage heater is suitable for amateur locksmiths in full, as it will not only warm the air in the garage / outbuilding / shed to an acceptable temperature. At the same time, such a thermal electric gun will be able to raise the temperature of surrounding objects, which means that metals will not burn hands with cold. A water stationary thermal gun is also perfect for this option.

In other words, an air thermal electric gun for technical rooms will be the best winter purchase for any man if:

  • you have an unheated room for a car, and at sufficiently low temperatures your car will not start;
  • you have an unheated non-residential premises in which turning and plumbing (or other) equipment is installed, and you need to work at low temperatures.

Other types of heat guns

Industrial guns can also be liquid fuel. This is a diesel gun, gasoline or diesel fuel thermal gun. Diesel is characterized by low cost and the lowest consumption, which makes diesel-fueled units the most beneficial for users. The gas air gun has been widely used for the installation of stretch ceilings, as evidenced by the numerous reviews of the craftsmen. And for faster heating of premises, including greenhouses, ceramic heat guns are used.

You can choose and order inexpensive thermal guns with delivery in Moscow and Russian regions in the online store website.

Sometimes standard heating solutions do not work or are not efficient enough. For example, there is stove heating in a bathhouse or in a country house, but as long as it warms up, you will get cold. The second example is a garage, a workshop, a barn. There is usually no heating in them, but sometimes it is necessary to work even in the cold. For these cases, heat guns (heat guns) can be used. They are not very suitable for heating residential premises, but they are even very good for the situations described above, as well as for heating greenhouses and industrial areas.

What is a heat gun, advantages and disadvantages

In short, a heat gun is a powerful mobile heating device that is used to heat the air in rooms of significant volumes. It has a heat source - an electric heater or burner (gas or fuel) and a powerful fan that is installed behind the burner. Outwardly, most often, it looks like a cylinder, which is mounted sideways on a stand. The stand may have wheels for easier movement.

The main advantages are small size and maneuverability. A heat gun with a power of up to 10 kW easily fits in the trunk of an ordinary car. Another plus is a quick exit to the operating mode. It takes just a few minutes for the heater to start working, heating the room. So it is rational to use heat guns for space heating to quickly warm up the air. They are also used in various technological processes - for accelerated drying or heating of materials, etc.

Let's look at the cons in more detail:

  • Burns oxygen. There's nothing to be done - during the combustion of any fuel, oxygen is used. If there is no ventilation in the room, this can lead to headaches, poor health and other unpleasant symptoms.
  • The equipment is fire hazardous. Since some types of fuel guns (and liquid fuels) use open fire, special attention is required during their operation. To reduce the risk, choose models that are equipped with flame sensors.
  • High noise level. Any type of heat gun has a fan. It makes noise while working. Some models (more expensive) make less noise, some more. But the fans are definitely not silent. But these sounds are lost in the background of the noise that the burners produce during operation. Liquid fuel injectors are especially noisy. So the noisiest are liquid fuel heat guns.
  • Unsightly appearance. These heaters were originally developed for industrial needs and only then were slightly adapted for domestic use. But their appearance did not become much better.

If you are going to use heat guns for space heating, you will need devices that control the temperature and turn the equipment on/off. Otherwise, you will have to do it manually, which is not always convenient.

Application area

Typically, heat guns are used to quickly bring the temperature to acceptable values in technical, industrial premises. If we talk about domestic use, heat guns for space heating are convenient in garages, for quickly warming up houses of periodic residence (dachas), baths. In this case, you can close your eyes to the unattractive sight, noise and smell that accompany their work.

Heat guns for heating residential premises - not the most aesthetic option, but effective

Powerful units in a couple of tens of minutes heat up the air from considerable minuses - for example, from -20 ° C to quite comfortable 12-15 ° C. So you can get through the hard times. But for regular heating of residential premises, such units are of little use - there are too many minuses, and the main plus - lightness and mobility - are simply irrelevant for permanent heating.

Many dachas or bathhouses do not have constant heating. They usually have a stove or other heating equipment. But until the stove heating flares up / warms up, a lot of time passes. In order not to freeze at this time, a heat gun is needed. Its characteristics are ideal just in order to quickly heat the air in the room and not freeze until the main heat source enters the operating mode. So heat guns are good for heating temporary rooms.

The device and types of heating guns

The principle of operation of heat guns is similar to the operation of convectors, but they have a different shape - most often they are made in the form of a cylinder. This device has a heat source and a fan installed behind it. The heat source can be a heated coil, a heating element (tubular electric heater), fuel burning in the burner. Energy resources are converted into heat, and a working fan actively “blows” this heat into the room. Due to this, the temperature in the room quickly rises. Therefore, heat guns are used to heat rooms in emergency mode.

More sophisticated models may have multiple fan speeds, a thermostat that allows you to control the temperature, and other bells and whistles. They are more convenient and often more economical. These heat guns can be used to heat residential premises. But they have little effect on the principle of operation. They work on different types of energy carriers:

  • Electricity:
    • from 220 V (power up to 8-10 kW);
    • from 380 V (power above 10 kW).
  • Fuel:
    • on gas (natural and liquefied);
    • liquid fuel (diesel oil, kerosene);
    • multi-fuel (can run on diesel fuel, kerosene, machine oil (for working out too).

Despite the fact that all equipment has the same name, there are serious differences, their advantages and disadvantages. There are still nuances in the terminology: electric heat guns are often called fan heaters, and when they talk about heat guns, they mean gas or fuel models. But this is far from always the case, since electric heat guns in the standard version in the form of a cylinder do not look much like traditional fan heaters.

Electric models and how they differ from fan heaters and convectors

To begin with, let's consider what is the difference between heat guns and other heating electrical appliances. If you look at its structure, you can say that they are arranged almost exactly the same as fan heaters. And there, and there, there can be a spiral or a heating element, there is a fan. So what are the differences?

Basically, the difference is in power and purpose. A fan heater is a not too powerful device designed for heating small and medium-sized rooms. It is often used when the main heating system does not cope with its task - in the cold or during the off-season. Fan heaters are designed for a long period of operation, to maintain the required temperature. At the same time, the temperature rises smoothly, since the power of heaters of this type is small.

The difference between electric guns and fan heaters is power

Heat guns are powerful devices (from 5 kW and above) and are able to heat the air in a room or garage very quickly. But maintaining the temperature with their help is not very convenient - high power simply does not allow it to be done accurately and smoothly enough. In a limited volume of the room, even a short-term inclusion gives a sharp jump in temperature. In general, heat guns for heating residential premises are not very convenient. There are, of course, schemes for stepwise switching on of heating elements. But they are rarely found in heat guns - the purpose is still different: for large industrial premises, where their capacities are just right. And, due to the large volumes of air, temperature spikes are nowhere near as noticeable.

There is another similar device - electric convectors. Sometimes you have to choose between a heat gun and a convector. With them, the situation is different. Classic models of convectors are designed so that the air in them moves through natural processes - without the operation of a fan. So the difference between classic convectors and electric heat guns is the presence of a fan.

For heating greenhouses, heat guns are a good solution

In addition, since fan heaters and convectors were designed as household appliances, they have a good design. You can't say the same about heat guns. A piece of pipe is not very attractive in appearance. When developing the appearance, not too much attention was paid, the emphasis was on performance. That's all the differences between heat guns and convectors or fan heaters.

Now about the advantages and disadvantages of electric heat guns. Electric heat guns make almost no noise, "do not smell" and these are their advantages. However, they are rarely used. And all because they consume a lot of electricity, and this is not cheap. In addition, not all networks can withstand the required power. In order to warm up the room quickly, you need a power of 10 kW. The minimum is 8 kW, but with such power, the heating time will be much longer. In any case, few domestic networks can handle such a load. And certainly not a dacha electrical network (although, for a small dacha, you can try models for 5 kW). Moreover, it must be borne in mind that many instances are connected to three-phase networks (at 380 V).

Gas Models

Are completed with torches which work at the main or liquefied gas. Those designed for liquefied gas can be equipped with a hose and reducer, so for the first start it remains only to connect an liquefied gas cylinder. Just note that for operation you need to be connected to a 220 V network: the device has an electric fan, controllers and automation, which require power. Electricity consumption is very small - even the most powerful units consume no more than 500 watts per hour.

The power of gas heat guns is from 5 to 580 kW. They can also be used for heating residential premises. The gas burns out almost completely, there is exhaust, but for low-power devices it is no more than from a gas stove, boiler or water heater. But oxygen is used for combustion, so good ventilation is necessary for normal health.

Like any gas equipment, gas heat guns for space heating carry a potential hazard. Therefore, most of the modern models are equipped with devices that guarantee safety. There is a flame detector that will turn off the gas supply if the flame goes out. To save fuel and maintain a stable temperature, heat regulators are built into the devices. With their help, the temperature is set, which is automatically maintained by the control unit.

If we talk about the features of operation, we must remember that the gas in the cylinders can freeze. In order to warm up in frosts, for example, a garage, it is necessary to bring the cylinder from a warm room.

Important! Often, a gas cylinder is heated locally. those. air flow from a working cannon - it can explode from overheating. It is possible that the cylinder is overfilled and even its slight heating can lead to an explosion. Unfortunately, such cases are not uncommon. The cylinder must be filled no more than 80% of its capacity.

on diesel fuel

They have almost the same device as gas ones. The difference is in the burner. In it, the fuel is first sprayed into tiny drops, this dust is mixed with air, and the gas-air mixture is already ignited. In this regard, diesel burners are more noisy - this is a feature of the workflow.

What are the advantages of diesel heat guns for space heating? The fact that diesel fuel is easy to buy. There is it at any gas station. While it is forbidden to fill household cylinders at a regular gas station, and buying from gas workers is expensive. In addition, I am glad that diesel fuel can be bought "from hand" cheaper.

But diesel heat guns for space heating have a significant disadvantage - a strong characteristic odor. He is very strong. The “starting” aroma can be removed if you kindle the device on the street and bring the already working unit into the room. But the smell that is present during operation cannot be removed in any way. You can only replace diesel fuel with kerosene, but it is even more expensive. In this case, the cost per unit of heat will be comparable to the cost of space heating with an electric heat gun.

If diesel-fueled heat guns are still more suitable for you, you should know that they come in two types - direct and indirect heating. With direct heating, gaseous products of combustion (including carbon monoxide) remain in the room, with indirect heating they are discharged through a pipe. You understand how unpleasant and dangerous such a situation is.

The second option - heat guns of indirect heating for space heating are more acceptable. But to remove gases, you will have to pull the chimney from the gun, which is not always convenient, and even expensive. But you can not worry about odors and carbon monoxide. There is almost no smell.

Indirect diesel heat guns can even be used for home heating. For this case, it is better to take universal models. They can still run on engine oil (including used oil). In addition, usually a universal model allows you to change the fan speed, burner power, is equipped with sensors that monitor safety.

Heating guns on diesel fuel of direct heating can be found with power from 10 to 220 kW, indirect - up to 85 kW. The operating time is limited only by the capacity of the fuel tank, but can usually operate up to 8-10 hours. If there is a thermostat, then one tank can last for a day or so. If we talk about efficiency, then they are not the highest efficiency (coefficient of performance). When compared with multi-fuel ones, diesel ones consume 10-15% more fuel per unit of heat (even if the same diesel fuel is used).

Multi-fuel

Universal units that can work with any liquid fuel: diesel fuel, kerosene, engine oil. "Digest" these units and mining. So they are beneficial at service stations or other enterprises where this fuel is sufficient. Their efficiency is about 100%, they can work without stopping for 10-12 hours. The power of multi-fuel heat guns of direct heating is up to 280 kW, indirect heating is up to 80 kW.

The disadvantage of such equipment is the price - much higher than diesel ones with similar parameters. Just remember that direct heating multi-fuel or diesel heat guns cannot be used to heat rooms where people stay for a long time.

How to choose

After you have decided on the type of energy source on which the heat gun will work, you still need to decide about the power. First you need to know how much you will need to raise the temperature and how quickly you want to do it. Further on the table, we look at what power the instance will provide you with the desired mode. The table shows the data for the temperature increase within an hour. If you want to speed up the process, you have to double the power. After that, you should look at the offers, estimate the prices. If everything suits - great. No - you will have to adjust the desires.

For example, let's calculate how much power the unit needs to heat a garage with an area of 12 sq.m and a height of 2.5 m in winter. So the calculation:

  • Temperature delta - 32 ° C, volume 12 * 2.5 = 30 cubic meters, which means we need the first line.
  • Since the table shows the heat output for heating by 15°C, the power is doubled. It turns out we need 6 kW. But this is for heating in 1 hour.
  • To be able to warm up in 30 minutes, we double the power again. It turns out that we need a 12 kW heat gun.

In reality, you can take in the range from 10 to 15 kW, taking into account insulation. If there is no insulation at all, it is better to take a more powerful one or you will have to wait longer. In general, heat guns for space heating usually take from 8 to 15 kW of power. More productive for domestic purposes are simply not needed.

What to look out for

If you have decided which heat guns for space heating suit you more, you should think about what features or additional functions will be useful. Some - control of the presence of a flame and shutdown when changing position - should be mandatory. The rest are optional. We will describe the possible options, you will choose which are relevant to you.

Since all heat guns require a connection to 220 V, you need to pay attention to the length of the power cord. For gas models, another important parameter is the length of the gas hose. Wheels are desirable for convenient movement of fuel models; a handle will not interfere. These are the little things that make operation more comfortable, and when choosing heat guns for space heating, do not forget about them.

The efficiency of space heating worries many people.

This can equally apply to both the head of the enterprise, who is puzzled by the problem of heating large industrial premises, and the owner of an ordinary private household.

And each of them is looking for the best option for heating the room. Such a problem can arise especially acutely when it is very quickly necessary to heat a certain room. (By the way, you can read about the features of choosing a heat gun for a garage in).

And such moments can arise, for example, in the following situations:

  • sharp frosts have come, and the existing heating system does not fully heat a private house;
  • products were delivered to the warehouse of the enterprise, which require a special thermal temperature regime, and the storage conditions do not meet the standards;
  • it is urgent to maintain the temperature in the greenhouse, as the main sources of heat are out of order.

It would seem that unsolvable situations are described? But there is still a way out of them, and it is quite logical and simple - it is recommended to use it for quick space heating.

This type of heating units has recently appeared on the modern market of heating equipment, and at the same time, has already managed to win a lot of feedback from users of these unique devices.

Therefore, in this article we will try to describe in as much detail as possible such a type of equipment as heat guns, as well as tell you by what criteria you should choose heat guns.

Principle of operation and device

What is this miracle of technology? In order to answer this question, it is worth understanding that a heat gun is a device that can heat a room of any size in a fairly short period.

In other words, a heat gun is a unit that is designed for quick heating, as well as for high-quality drying of various technological operations.

Many ordinary people involuntarily ask a reasonable question: what kind of heat gun is this? And the thing is that the appearance of this unique heating device involuntarily resembles the design of an ordinary artillery gun, and at the same time, it is an excellent heating device.

As a rule, the design of a heat gun consists of the following important components:

  • a heating element;
  • powerful fan;
  • Sufficiently durable metal case;
  • thermostat that prevents the device from overheating;
  • a thermostat that allows the unit to operate in standalone mode, in other words, the device operates from a predetermined temperature regime in the room;
  • some of the types of these units are equipped with an air filter.

The functioning of the heat gun consists in the following sequential actions:

  • the heating element generates heat energy;
  • cold air is supplied to the unit through a special hole on the body;
  • With the help of a fan, the forced air directs the heat flow to the right place in the room.

Varieties

It is also important that thermal energy is generated by converting various energy carriers into heat.

As for thermal devices of this type, they are usually divided into types depending on what type of energy carrier is chosen for their processing into a heat flow of air.

In the modern market of heating equipment, heat guns are represented by the following types.

. In the units of this line, the heating element can be presented in the form of a spiral of refractory metals or a sealed tube, which is called a heating element.

In the modern market for heating equipment, electric heat guns are represented by a wide range of models, the power of which varies from 1.5 kW to 50 kW, and models up to 5 kW can be operated from a conventional household power supply.

In other words, electric heat guns have found application in almost all spheres of human activity, from heating small private houses to drying large warehouses and industrial premises.

. The principle of operation of units of this type is that the energy of diesel fuel is used to obtain a warm air flow.

Diesel heat guns are divided into two main types:

  • direct heating heat gun emits exhaust gases, therefore it is recommended to use it only in open space;
  • the heat gun of indirect heating functions without environmental pollution, as a result of which it can be used for heating and drying rooms for various purposes.

. For space heating, natural gas is used, which burns out completely in the unit, without polluting the environment.

A distinctive feature of this type of units is that the efficiency of gas heat guns is almost 100%.

Gas heat guns can be used quite effectively in crowded places (metro, crossings, train stations, etc.), and they are also an excellent option for heating in greenhouses.

Water heaters. The main feature of this type of units is that the heating element is presented in the form of a heat exchanger through which hot water passes.

Water heat guns can also be connected to an existing heating system, which in turn will significantly increase the efficiency of space heating.

Infrared heat guns. The uniqueness of the design of this type of heat guns lies in the fact that they do not have a blowing fan heater. In other words, infrared radiation contributes to the formation of a heat flux.

When using infrared heat guns, it is worth considering the fact that they purposefully heat certain areas of the room, so they can be effectively used when drying plaster or when installing a stretch ceiling.

Multi-fuel heaters. In such units, the air heat flow occurs due to the efficient combustion of used oil.

The principle of operation of multi-fuel heat guns is that, using a special system of pumps, the used oil is transferred to a special combustion chamber.

At the same time, it is worth noting the fact that the efficiency of these units approaches 100%.

How to choose

In order to choose the right heat gun for your specific purposes, you must always pay attention to a number of the following important criteria:

In case of failure, the equipment can be taken to a specialized workshop, or you can fix the breakdown with your own hands. Instruction:

How to calculate power

The simplest and most convenient way to calculate the power of a heat gun is as follows: to heat 10 m2 of a room, 1–1.3 kW of heat gun power is needed.

For example, if you need to heat a room with a size of 80 m2, then, accordingly, you need to choose such a unit, which should be 80–104 kW.

We hope that the information presented in the article will be quite useful to you when choosing such a unique device as a heat gun.

Watch the video, which explains in detail how to choose the heat gun you need:

When you need to quickly heat up a cold room that has not been heated for a long time, or maintain normal thermal conditions in a large enclosed space, dry moist air so that mold does not start in the room, a heat gun will be an ideal option for solving all these problems. And if the owner has already realized the need to buy something so useful to him, the next question that confronts him is how to choose a heat gun. The market offers a wide variety of options, each of which will be good for achieving a specific goal.

Description and use of units

Heat guns create a stream of hot air, dispersed throughout the room with a fan built into its body. This method of heating compares favorably with others. Here are some advantages of heat guns:

  1. Ecological safety - the electric motor does not produce hazardous waste that appears during the combustion of combustible substances. The oxygen content in the heated air practically does not decrease. Since there is no open flame, the device is considered fireproof.
  2. Ease of use - the heat gun does not need to install complex electrical equipment and other conditions, for example, hoods. You just need to plug it into the electrical network using a regular outlet with the required voltage.
  3. Small size - despite the shape of the hull, the gun is quite compact when compared with other heating appliances that run on gas or diesel fuel. It easily fits in the trunk of a car, and it can be freely transported, for example, to the country.
  4. Lack of noise - during the work the heat gun does not make loud sharp sounds. Their level, as a rule, does not exceed 35055 dB. The upper figure of this range is considered the normal noise level for office work.

Heat guns are very practical due to their size and weight.

Selection of models by power

The main thing in choosing an electrothermal gun is the correct choice of heating power. It is she who affects the amount of air that will be warmed during the period of work. For example, for a product with a power of 2 kW, the air consumption is 120 cubic meters. m / h, and for a selected 3 kW gun, the thermal flow reaches 300 cubic meters. m/h So, such a product will provide heat to the house. A simplified selection scheme may be as follows: a power of 1 kW is enough to heat 10 square meters. m (if the height of the room does not exceed 3 m).

Professionals perform a more thorough calculation using a special formula.

When calculating, it is not the dimensions of the room that are taken into account, but its volume and the thermal conductivity of the walls.

Calculation example

The dimensions of the heated object are 10 square meters. m, and the level of its upper border is 3 m. Therefore, the volume of the object will be 30 cubic meters. m. Suppose that the device must heat the air in the room to at least + 15 ° C, while outside - frost -20 ° C. Therefore, the difference between these values reaches 35°C. Let's say that the walls of the structure perfectly retain heat, and the thermal conductivity multiplier will be 1 unit.

In this video you will learn the pros and cons of a heat gun:

The calculation of the required power is carried out as follows: 30 times 35 times 1, then divide by 860. The total is 1.22 kW. This means that for a room with an area of 10 square meters. m, a heat gun with a power of 1.22 kW will be optimal for the best heating in the winter. But at the same time, it is better to purchase a model with some reserve, for example, with a power of 1.5 kW.

If you systematize the heating equipment by power, then products up to 5 kW are considered as household ones. Such heat guns operate from an electrical network with a voltage of 220 V. They are very easy to use in summer cottages, car garages, offices, private cottages. Sometimes such units are called fan heaters.

It is important to understand that not every heat gun comes with a power cord and power plug. Please note that they will need to be purchased separately.

Main design features

If a heat gun is required for heating, the choice must begin with taking into account the configuration of the unit body. In the heating equipment market, manufacturers exhibit models of two forms:

  • rectangular;
  • tubular.

They have their own characteristics and positive aspects.

The tubular variety has an elongated steel body that looks like a cylinder. A heating element is fixed in the depth of the case, which provides almost instantaneous access to the nominal temperature. A tubular outdoor unit allows you to produce a directed flow of hot air.

The object warms up extremely quickly, a heat gun of this type is suitable for drying rooms. However, dust and dirt, when sticking to the coil, can become a prerequisite for the appearance of foreign odors and excessive oxygen consumption. Therefore, for residential facilities, this kind of device will be irrelevant.

Each type of heat gun has its own characteristics.

A rectangular device contains a heating element as a heating source, and it, in turn, is much safer than a heating coil. Heating is not as fast as it happens in the tubular model, but at the same time it is more convenient and pleasant than from modifications with a tubular body. The device can be used in residential and office premises. The block is not so large and does not require much space.

It is worth paying attention to the structural components of the thermal gun. If it is bought for fixed use, it is worth making sure that it has a stable stand - legs or foot.

In some cases, the device must be moved frequently. The steel case heats up during use, and in order not to burn yourself and not damage others, you will need to hold the unit by the handle.

Heating level adjustment

In addition to the heating power, many models provide power control. The step switch can turn on full power to quickly warm up the room, or partial power for constant heat support, and also be used as a secondary source of heating. Some models are equipped with a fan that works without heating, only for air circulation.

For an electric heat gun, insurance against overheating is important. Reaching a critical temperature threshold during operation, the gun turns off. This can happen if the body of the device is accidentally covered with something - the protective system is triggered and the heating stops.

The unshakably excellent quality of the equipment and the possibility of long-term operation - this is what distinguishes German heat guns. They also come with a 2 year warranty.

FUBAG SIROCCO 20 M has a compact cylindrical block that is adjustable to change the direction of heat flow. It is comfortable both for heating rooms and for drying surfaces. Due to the design features, it can be easily delivered to a cold, unheated room. After connecting to the network, it immediately starts fast heating. It is important that the lower thermal limit of work reaches -10°C. The presented electrothermal gun is suitable for transfers due to the handle and not very large weight - only 4.2 kg.

Timberk is a classic in the heating market

Timberk designers never cease to amaze customers with the latest and most versatile heaters. They shattered the notion that thermal guns consume too much electricity - more than other similar sources. Now they have created highly efficient products with excellent heat dissipation and a housing design that realizes the fastest heating.

Timberk TIH R2S 3K - a modification equipped with a non-corrosive steel heating coil and a coating that increases heat transfer. Energy intensity reaches 3 kW, only half of the power can be used. The main characteristic feature of the unit is the special “aerodynamic control” technology: thanks to it, the body design guarantees targeted air movement for the highest quality heating.

The gun works around the clock. It is durable and protected from overheating. Ease of installation and quality of materials comply with European quality standards and the requirements of Russian GOSTs.

Among the many devices for heating, a heat gun, one might say, stands apart. It is distinguished by the ability, in full accordance with the name, to solve the problem of heating the room quickly and efficiently, as well as suitability for solving some other problems. Next, we will talk about the most practical variety of these devices - electric heat guns, and at the same time learn how to choose them correctly.

What is an electric heat gun

A heat gun is a heating device in which the heating element is blown with air using a fan. From contact with the heater, the air temperature rises, after which it enters the room with a powerful stream.

With a power of up to 2 kW, the heat gun can have a plastic case. Such a device is commonly called a fan heater and it is intended for domestic use. More powerful models are equipped exclusively with a metal case, which looks like a pipe. The latter circumstance gives the device a resemblance to a gun.

The body of a high power electric heat gun is made of steel sheet

During the operation of any heating device not equipped with a fan - a radiator or a convector - the heated air is distributed in the room due to convection. This process, firstly, is quite lengthy, and secondly, it is not able to cover a spacious object like a warehouse or a hangar: due to local heat loss, slowly moving air has time to cool down before it penetrates into the remote corners of the room.

The heat gun works differently. Driving the air with a fan, it provides forced mixing, due to which the room warms up very quickly, and the heat spreads evenly even over a fairly large volume.

The heat from the cannon is distributed throughout the room thanks to the fan built into it.

The disadvantage of a heat gun is that it makes noise during operation. Therefore, in residential premises with a standard area, the use of a convection heater will be more comfortable.

Space heating is not the only function of a heat gun. Basically, it is a big and powerful hair dryer, therefore, it can help with the following:

  • to dry vegetables or fruits;
  • heat the polymer stretch ceiling so that it can be stretched, as well as roofing felt or other roofing roll material to give it elasticity before laying in cold weather;
  • dry freshly laid plaster, screed or paint.

In addition, if the heater is turned off, the heat gun can be used as a fan.

Modern heat guns are equipped with protection against overheating. Many models have a controller and a connector for connecting an external temperature sensor, thanks to which the heater independently maintains the temperature set by the user in the room.

Along with electric heat guns, fuel ones are produced in which heat is released by burning gas, diesel fuel, waste mineral oil, and even solid fuel. But for a number of reasons, it is the electric option that is the most convenient.

Advantages of an electric gun in comparison with other types

This device wins in the following:

  1. The design is extremely simple: a piece of wire made of a material with high electrical resistance is used as a heater. In fuel counterparts, this role is played by a burner or nozzle that is more difficult to manufacture, and in addition, a number of additional elements are used: in gas ones - an electromagnetic valve, in diesel ones - a fuel pump, a filter and a diesel fuel tank.
  2. A simple device brings several benefits at once: low cost, low weight, compact dimensions and simple and inexpensive repairs.
  3. No exhaust or bad smell.
  4. The noise level is relatively low as only the fan makes noise. In fuel heat guns, the burner also emits noise, and in diesel ones, the drive of the fuel pump also makes noise.
  5. An electric heat gun is safer: the user is not in danger of fuel leakage, followed by fire or explosion. There is no open flame, which makes the device safer in terms of fire (if the supply network is not overloaded). Also, there is no need to fear poisoning by the products of combustion of fuel. True, the electrical appliance becomes dangerous in conditions of high humidity, but only in the usual version. If the gun is specially designed for wet rooms, that is, it has a high class of moisture and dust protection, is connected to ground and through an RCD, then the risk of electrical injury is reduced to zero.
  6. Unlike fuel analogues, the electric unit does not require refueling, therefore, it can work indefinitely without user intervention.
  7. Maintenance is also not required, while the heaters of fuel analogues must be periodically cleaned of carbon deposits, and in diesel heat guns, the fuel filter also has to be serviced.
  8. The power of the heater can be adjusted in the widest range - from zero to maximum. The nozzles and burners of fuel heat guns are mostly designed for a constant fuel supply rate, respectively, it is impossible to reduce their power without losing the quality of combustion. The modulated burners that have appeared relatively recently allow you to adjust the power, but not as flexibly as electric heaters. In addition, such burners are much more expensive than conventional ones.

The statement about the practicality and convenience of electric heat guns is not a marketing ploy, it is quite reasonable. But you should also take into account the disadvantages:

  1. High cost of electricity. The operation of a fuel gun, even though part of the heat produced is removed along with the smoke, is still cheaper compared to an electric one.
  2. The dependence of power on the capabilities of the supply network. And in most cases these possibilities are not so great. The household electrical network is designed for a maximum load in the range of 7–10 kW. And the point here is not only the capacity of the electrical cable: one of the users who wished to connect a 15 kW electric boiler in a private house had to pay for the replacement of not only the cable, but also the transformer at the substation. The fuel heat gun in any conditions can "give out" tens of kilowatts of heat, and it consumes electricity in very modest quantities - only for the operation of the fan.

Specifications

Electric heat guns are characterized by the following parameters:

  1. Maximum power consumption. For the most productive models, this parameter can reach 30 kW or more. In fact, this is the power of the heating elements (only a few tens of watts are spent on the operation of the fan), and given that the efficiency of electric heaters is almost 100%, then this parameter can be equated to heat output. That is, we can assume that a heat gun that consumes 5 kW of electricity will also generate heat with a power of 5 kW.
  2. Partial power consumption. It is indicated for devices with step power regulation and means the power of one step.
  3. Fan performance. This characteristic is linked to the power of the heaters. With a power of 1 kW, the fan usually operates with a capacity of 120 m 3 / hour, with a power of 3 kW - with a capacity of 300–320 m 3 / hour.
  4. Power consumed in ventilation mode. Minor value. For example, a fan with a capacity of 500 m 3 / h consumes only 30 W of electricity.
  5. Voltage. Models with a power of up to 5 kW are designed for connection to a 1-phase 220 V network. More powerful ones have a 3-phase design, that is, they operate with a voltage of 380 V.
  6. Rated current. According to this characteristic, it is possible to determine whether the supply network can withstand the load from the heat gun. If the rated current is not specified, it can be calculated by dividing the power input by the voltage (I = W / U).
  7. The heating area with a ceiling height of 2.5 m. This is an approximate indicator, which is calculated from the consideration that for heating every 10 square meters. m of area at the specified ceiling height requires 1 kW of heat. That is, in the characteristics of a heat gun with a power of 5 kW, in the column "Heating area ...", a value of 50 m 2 will be indicated. However, it should be understood that these are very average data, because the value of specific heat loss, namely, the energy consumption for heating depends on it, for different buildings with different volumes, glazing and wall materials can vary greatly.
  8. The temperature difference between the inlet and outlet airflow in the maximum heat output mode. This value depends on the power of the heaters. For the most low-power devices, it is 20–40 0 С, and a gun with a power of 18–20 kW can heat the air up to 140 0 С.
  9. The maximum allowable continuous operation time.
  10. The minimum duration of the pause between the maximum sessions of uninterrupted work. Usually, the maximum running time and the duration of the pause are indicated as a fraction. For example, the entry "24/2" indicates that the heat gun can work non-stop for 24 hours, after which it will be necessary to take a break for at least 2 hours.
  11. Dust and moisture protection class. Denoted by the letters "IP", followed by two numbers: the first indicates the level of protection against dust ingress, the second - from moisture. In the usual version, the heat guns have an IP dust and moisture protection class.
  12. Electrical protection class. All heat guns with a metal case have class I electrical protection: a ground wire is connected to the case and other current-carrying parts, which is connected to the ground circuit through the contacts on the plug and socket.
  13. Dimensions.
  14. Weight. As already mentioned, electric heat guns are relatively light. The model with a power of 2 kW in a plastic case weighs only 0.86 kg. A heater with a metal case with a power of 3 kW weighs 9 kg, and models with a power of about 20 kW weigh within 20 kg.

An important point: if the fan performance for any reason turns out to be less than calculated, the heat gun will often be turned off by the overheating protection system.

Main manufacturers

Electric heat guns are quite popular equipment, so many companies produce them. Among the most famous are manufacturers such as Ballu, Zubr, Interskol, Inforce.

ballu

This Dutch company has production facilities in Russia, so its products in our country are distinguished not only by quality, but also by availability.

Ballu heat guns have a characteristic design, equipped with thermostats and vibration damping elements

An example is the Ballu BHP-P-3 heat gun.

The following can be said about her:

  • power is 3 kW (step adjustment is provided);
  • fan capacity: 300 m3/h;
  • weight is 4.8 kg;
  • the case has a double wall, due to which its outer surface does not heat up much (safe operation);
  • the working part can be rotated relative to the support, which makes it easy to change the direction of air supply.

Price of the device: 2.5 thousand rubles.

The Ballu BKX-3 model was also in demand. It is distinguished by the following features:

  • made in China, which explains the low cost;
  • applied ceramic heater;
  • there are vibration-damping elements, thanks to which it was possible to significantly reduce the noise level;
  • a thermostat is installed on the gun, with the help of which the device automatically maintains the temperature in the room at a user-specified level (designed for a range from 0 to 40 0 С);
  • switches are made in a dust-moisture-proof design;
  • there is protection against pulling out the cable and from twisting it.

Cost: 1790 rubles.

"Bison"

Russian manufacturer. The quality of domestic devices is becoming ever higher, while the cost remains very affordable compared to imported analogues. Thanks to this, Russian products are increasingly becoming leaders in sales.

Ceramic plates are used as heating elements in the Zubr electric heat gun.

An example is the heat gun "Zubr Master ZTP-2000". The characteristics are as follows:

  • power: 2 kW;
  • weight: 1.9 kg;
  • heating element: ceramic plates.

Price: 1.8 thousand rubles.

"Interskol"

Electric heat gun Interskol TPE-2 is in great demand among users due to the high degree of reliability combined with low cost

Master

The company is registered in the USA. Its products are extremely expensive. For example, the Master B 2 EEB model with a power of 2 kW costs about 5 thousand rubles. But on the other hand, in the assortment of this manufacturer there are heat guns for all occasions. So, the Master B 30 EPR device, with a power of 30 kW, has a branch pipe for connecting a flexible duct.

The ability to connect a flexible air duct to the Master B 30 EPR gun allows you to heat several large rooms with one unit

Thus, if there is a network of air ducts, it will be possible to heat several large premises of a plant or a warehouse complex with one heat gun. Due to the presence of the chassis, the device is mobile. The cost of this "monster" is 71 thousand rubles.

How to choose an electric heat gun

The choice of a heater begins with the selection of its power. It was said above that the heated area is often indicated in the characteristics of the device, but this data is purely for reference and cannot be trusted. Ideally, you should order a civil engineer or heat engineer to calculate the heat loss of a building, which will help you choose the power with sufficient accuracy.

If this is not possible, you can perform the calculation yourself using a very simplified method. Only one formula is used: Q = (V x dT x K) / 860, where Q is the desired power of the heat gun, kW; V is the volume of the room, m 3; dT is the difference between the desired indoor and outdoor air temperature in the coldest period of the year, 0 С; K is a dimensionless coefficient, which is taken in accordance with the design features of the structure and the degree of its insulation for buildings:

  • built using modern energy-saving technologies (all enclosing structures are insulated with modern highly efficient heat insulators, sealed windows with double-glazed windows are installed): K = 0.6–0.9;
  • built and insulated using traditional technologies and equipped with non-hermetic windows of ordinary sizes: K = 1–1.9;
  • lungs with walls half a brick thick, single glazing and a simple roof, possibly with little insulation (outbuildings, etc.): K = 2–2.9;
  • frame with single-layer sheathing with boards or corrugated board and without insulation (hangars, warehouses): K = 3–4.

Calculation example

As an example, let's calculate the power of a heat gun for a room in an ordinary house (we take K = 1.4) with dimensions in terms of 4x5 m and a ceiling height of 3 m. Let's set the condition that:

  • the heater will be used when the outside temperature is -5 0 С;
  • the temperature in the room must be maintained at +20 0 C;
  • temperature difference inside and outside dT = 20 - (-5) = 25 0 С.

The volume of the room will be V = 4 x 5 x 3 = 60 m 3.

Then the power of the heat gun will be equal to Q = (60 x 25 x 1.4) / 860 = 2.44 kW.

Heater type

Three types of heaters are used in electric heat guns:

  1. Spiral made of nichrome or other alloy with high electrical resistance.
  2. Tubular electric heater (TEN). This is the same spiral, only placed in a copper tube filled with sand.
  3. Ceramic plates. The same heating coil is embedded in the plate.

The first option - a pure spiral - is the cheapest, but it has an important drawback: the metal heats up very much, so dust burns on it with an unpleasant odor.

The heating element and the ceramic plate do not heat up so much, while they are not inferior to the spiral in performance, since they have a surface with a much larger area. Dust does not burn on them, but the price of such heaters is slightly higher.

Additional functions

Here's what else you need to pay attention to when choosing a heat gun:

  1. If the device is supposed to be moved from place to place, you should choose a model with a comfortable handle. During operation, heat guns heat up quite strongly, so that in the absence of a handle it will be very difficult to move the device.
  2. It is good if the device has tip-over protection. Usually it has the form of a spring-loaded lever protruding from the support sole associated with the switch. When the cannon is in the correct position and its sole is pressed to the floor, the lever is depressed and the associated switch is in the "on" position. If the heater falls on its side, the spring will push the lever outward, causing the switch to be moved to the "off" position.
  3. Protection against overheating is also very important, but modern heat guns are equipped with it without fail.
  4. The presence of filters. Models with filters are designed for use in heavily dusty areas. It is important to remember to periodically change the filters or wash them if reusable products are used.
  5. The presence of a humidifier. If there is no open container with water in the room, then the relative humidity of the air decreases significantly during heating.

This process takes place when using any heater, not just electric. It is due to the fact that the maximum amount of steam that can be in a certain volume of air depends on the temperature of the latter. The air coming from the street contains little moisture due to the low temperature. When it is heated, its ability to dissolve vapor in itself increases, but the amount of vapor remains the same and the air becomes, as they say, dry.

Such air is unpleasant to breathe, it causes drying of the mucous membranes and skin, and also leads to the fact that wooden furniture and decoration dry out. To eliminate this problem, some models of heat guns are equipped with an air humidifier - a device that quickly saturates the internal air with water vapor.

Along the way, let's debunk another myth: none of the electric heaters, regardless of the principle of operation, does not lead to "burning out" or "burning out" of oxygen. The concentration of the latter can decrease only during the combustion of any fuel. Perhaps the legend of burning out oxygen is due to the fact that heated air, due to its dryness, is, as already mentioned, unpleasant to breathe.

If the heat gun is going to be used in a room with high humidity, you should choose a model with a splash-proof body and dust-proof switches.

Also convenient are devices in which the direction of the air supply can be changed using blinds installed in the outlet.

The choice of a heat gun for a garage and for a summer residence

When calculating the power of a heater for a garage, the coefficient K should be taken equal to 2.45 (the average between 2 and 2.9), and for giving - 1.45, that is, as for an ordinary house.

Since a country house is a living space with a permanent stay of people, a heat gun with heating elements or ceramic plates should be used here. They, as mentioned above, do not smell of burnt dust.

For a garage where the user stays for a relatively short time, a gun with a heater in the form of spirals is also suitable. It is good if it is equipped with rollover protection, since such incidents are especially dangerous in the garage: the direction of hot air after the gun falls will change and oil and gasoline can get into its area of action. And since these substances are flammable, a fire is inevitable.

For a cannon in a country house, the presence of a humidifier is highly desirable. It can also be purchased separately.

The air humidifier can be replaced by a wet towel suspended on a stretched rope or a basin filled with water.

Economical heat guns

The high cost of electricity makes buyers look for models that consume this resource as rationally as possible. These are heat guns equipped with a thermostat. Upon reaching the set temperature, the device will turn off automatically, respectively, exactly as much electricity will be spent on heating the room as needed.

Heat guns without a thermostat have to be turned off manually. The user does not always do this in a timely manner, so that the heater, as a rule, even after reaching a comfortable temperature, continues to pump heat into the room, leading to unnecessary overheating, an increase in heat loss (we recall that they depend on the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors) and, accordingly , to waste of electricity.

You can pay attention to heat guns with heaters of a special design, which, in comparison with conventional ones, provide higher heat transfer. These include, for example, devices brand RexWatt. They are equipped with a heater made in the form of a cylinder (the manufacturer calls it a nozzle). Thanks to this shape, the air passing through the gun has time to heat up to a higher temperature than in the case of a conventional heater.

The heating elements in RexWatt electric heat guns are in the form of a cylinder

This feature, in turn, allows you to use a more efficient fan. If through a conventional heat gun with a power of 3 kW air is driven in a volume of 300 m 3 / h, then through a heater from RexWatt at the same power - 500 m 3 / h.

Thus, we can say that a RexWatt heat gun can replace two conventional ones, since it is able to circulate and, accordingly, distribute heat over an area twice as large as a conventional counterpart.

True, it should be borne in mind that the heat itself no longer becomes - both in a conventional gun and in a model from RexWatt, it is produced with a power of 3 kW.

A heat gun allows you to get by with one device where several radiators or convectors would be needed. At the same time, it can act as not only a heater, but also a large powerful hair dryer, which makes these devices very popular. Having carefully studied the above recommendations, you will be able to choose the most suitable model for yourself, having disposed of the funds in the best possible way.
