What air conditioner is better to buy home. How to choose the right air conditioner for an apartment or house. If the air conditioner is not powerful enough, then the owner is waiting

Among all types of home air conditioners, "splits" rank first in terms of the number of installations in apartments and private cottages (80-85% of the total). The trend continues, since these climate units are easy to use, do not take up usable space, and make little noise. Our task is to explain in detail what a split system is, to consider the principle of operation and the varieties of these household appliances.

Device and difference from other air conditioners

First, let's deal with the terminology. By definition, air conditioners are any air conditioning units that process air and bring it to the desired condition. Units can perform a number of functions:

  • cooling, heating;
  • drying, moisturizing;
  • cleaning, disinfection;
  • supply and exhaust ventilation of rooms with forced impulse.

Reference. Complex air treatment, for example, filtration + heating + humidification, is air conditioning. All the involved units, controls, ventilation ducts and grilles make up the air conditioning system (abbreviated as ACS).

The design of the outer part of the split system, operating on the principle of on / off

A classic split system is an air conditioner divided into 2 blocks - external and internal (the English word split means "to divide"). The outdoor module is a large housing, where the main elements of the cooler are located:

  • compressor;
  • heat exchanger - condenser;
  • fan;
  • expansion valve (in household models - a capillary tube);
  • four-way valve that switches between cooling / heating modes;
  • receiver tank - refrigerant dryer;
  • sensors, winter kit controller;
  • capacitors and compressor relay.

Addition. In the outdoor units of inverter models, an electronic control board is installed, connected to the indoor module with a special cable.

Typical layout of cooling system blocks

The outdoor unit is mounted outside on the wall of the building or placed on a balcony (loggia) without glazing. The second smaller block is placed inside the room - usually attached to the wall in the upper zone of the room, connected to the outer 2 freon lines and cable. The internal module includes the following elements:

  • heat exchanger-evaporator;
  • tangential fan with an impeller in the form of a long turbine;
  • electronic control circuit, temperature sensors;
  • room air filters;
  • blinds rotated by stepper motors;
  • condensate tray, drainage tube.

Switching on and setting up the split system is provided from the remote control. The number of functions implemented in the air conditioner depends on the type and price of a particular model.

How split system works

Let's move on to the technical side of the issue. The principle of operation of the "split" does not differ from the operation of other refrigeration machines - the transfer of thermal energy from one place to another. In this case, from the apartment to the street. The carrier (in technical language - working heat) is the refrigerant - freon, evaporating at a negative temperature.

An important point. Freons - compounds of hydrocarbons with fluorine - transfer a large amount of heat due to the phase transition from a liquid state of aggregation to a gaseous state and vice versa. In domestic air conditioners, 2 brands of refrigerants are used - R22, R410a. The characteristics of the latter correspond to modern environmental requirements, R22 is considered obsolete.

How does the "split" work after turning on and setting the desired temperature in the room:

Note. We have given a description of the operation of a conventional split system operating on the principle of "on / off" (on / off). More modern air conditioners - inverters - operate continuously, as described below. We offer you to watch a video about the phase transitions of freon inside the cooler:

When it is necessary to switch to heating mode, a four-way electric valve switches the flow of refrigerant in the opposite direction. The external radiator becomes an evaporator, the internal one becomes a condenser, heat is taken from the street and moved to the living room.

The so-called monoblocks work in a similar way - window and mobile air conditioners. The difference lies in the length of the freon lines - when all heat exchangers and fans are installed in a single housing, the length of communications does not exceed 1 m, on split systems - up to 7 m.

Scheme of operation of the monoblock version of the air conditioner, where all the elements are assembled in one housing

In inexpensive “splits”, room air passes through a coarse polypropylene mesh. More advanced models can be equipped with several filters, a dryer and an air ionizer.

Inverter coolers

A feature of these split systems is the continuous operation of the compressor. The power supply unit - the inverter - changes the performance of the unit by reducing or increasing the frequency of the electric current. What does this mean in practice:

  1. When the chiller is started, the compressor runs at maximum power.
  2. When the air temperature approaches the setpoint, at the command of the controller, the inverter gradually reduces the compressor capacity.
  3. When the set temperature threshold is reached, the power of the unit is reduced to a minimum.
  4. The split system switches to the temperature maintenance mode - the performance is regulated depending on the heating of the air.

Heating occurs in the same way - first the room temperature rises at maximum power, then the compressor engine speed decreases and increases according to the sensor signal. How is an "inverter" better than an "on / off" air conditioner:

  • there are no power surges from starting the electric motor;
  • the overall energy consumption is reduced;
  • temperature fluctuations inside the room are almost imperceptible, as happens after the compressor stops;
  • in winter, a constantly running compressor does not freeze in the cold.

The most expensive element of such SCR is the inverter board, otherwise the frequency converter

Reference. Some models of "inverters" remain operational up to minus 30 ° C in the yard. True, the intensity of heating drops significantly. Read more in a separate article.

Power Grading

Since the first air conditioners appeared in the USA, the cooling capacity of the units was measured in British thermal units - BTU. Manufacturers still produce lines of split systems according to the standard range of capacities - 7000, 9000, 12000 BTU and so on. In the designation of a particular model, there was a corresponding figure - 07, 09, 12 ...

Reference. One thousand BTU/hour corresponds to 293.07 W or 0.293 kW.

Now most manufacturers indicate the cooling capacity in kilowatts or in two units - kW and BTU. The table below shows the standard range of capacities for residential and semi-industrial split systems.

Varieties of air conditioning units

The arrangement of indoor and outdoor modules of all "splits" is the same, with the exception of some small things. The units are divided into types according to the method of placing the indoor unit:

Note. The household series includes only wall-mounted split systems. The rest - cassette, channel, column, floor and ceiling - are semi-industrial units. They are used in offices, cafes, administrative buildings, although no one interferes with hanging a ceiling air conditioner in an apartment.

Special mention deserves multi-split systems, consisting of one outdoor powerful unit and 2-4 indoor ones. Such ACS is capable of maintaining different temperatures in several rooms and is used in exceptional situations when it is impossible to place 2-3 separate modules on the facade of a building.

Why it is better to choose two or three “splits” instead of one multi-system:

  • higher price of equipment with the same installation cost;
  • the external multiblock does not allow simultaneous cooling and heating of two adjacent rooms, it is allowed to work in only one mode;
  • the outdoor unit differs in size and decent weight;
  • the cost of service increases due to the increased volume of freon and the complex structure of the unit, which can contain 2-3 compressors.

In large shopping centers and industrial buildings, industrial split systems are used - central and rooftop roof-top air conditioners. In them, the blocks are also separated - inside the premises there are fan coil units, supply units, outside - modules for cleaning, heating and cooling (chillers).

Affinity with heat pumps

The device of the inverter split system and the air source heat pump (HP) is identical. Both units use the principle of a refrigeration machine, take the heat from the outside air and heat the inside. Differences in design - in order to increase efficiency, the area of the external heat exchanger-evaporator HP is significantly increased, so the unit is often placed on the ground, as shown in the photo below.

In recent years, climate technology has moved from the category of luxury to the category of necessary elements of a comfortable life. The popularity of split systems is due to the fact that, in comparison with fans, they have obvious advantages. Creating a comfortable temperature in hot weather makes life a lot easier. The model range is updated annually, allowing you to choose the most advanced models. However, choosing a split system is not an easy task.

Equipment should be selected taking into account the area, the characteristics of housing. In addition, there are a number of parameters that you definitely need to pay attention to when buying a split system. If you approach this process not too carefully, you can end up with only disappointment, since not every air conditioner is suitable for a particular apartment.

Types, their pros and cons

Split systems have several species variations. If you buy home appliances, you should evaluate not only the quality of the models, but also additional functions: work for heating, humidification, ionization, aromatization. All this will create a comfortable microclimate in your home. First of all, decide which of the main types of equipment will be the most optimal for you.

Wall

General characteristics.

  • It belongs to the most common, the area of its service is variable. It can be installed in a small room of about 10 squares and in an apartment of about 70 squares. If the room is larger, it is better to choose a different view.
  • The module inside can be rectangular or angular. It is installed in close proximity to the window.
  • The main length is small, and the longer it is, the less efficient the system is. Its vertical length is up to 7 m, horizontally - up to 15 m.

Advantages:

  • simple design;
  • design concise, versatile;
  • does not take up much space;
  • within the length of the pipeline can be installed on any of the walls.

This option also has a significant drawback: wall models do not let fresh air into the room.

Ceiling, floor-ceiling

General characteristics.

  • Most often installed in institutions, pavilions, however, they are also suitable for home installation. Cooling in this embodiment occurs due to the fact that the air evenly settles down, which means that there is practically no draft.
  • Fasten both to the ceiling and to the wall in the floor area. In this case, the air flow goes up, diverging throughout the room. The floor variation can be hidden in a niche or a decorative type grate can be installed on it.

The advantage of such a system is that it can be installed in a room where the walls are not free.

Flaws:

  • fresh air does not enter the room;
  • floor systems do not work very well for heating;
  • the ceiling cannot be lower than 2.5 m.

ducted

General characteristics:

  • Suitable for rooms with a large area, high ceilings. This type is considered semi-industrial, however, it will be appropriate in a large house or apartment.
  • The essence of the operation of this system is not only in cooling, but also in drawing a fresh stream into the room, after which the cooled air is evenly distributed throughout the apartment.
  • Mounted on the ceiling, in ceiling niches. This results in a lower ceiling height. You can also install a similar model in a small room: pantry, dressing room.
  • The system can be supplemented with electric or water type heaters.

Advantages:

  • lets fresh air into the room;
  • suitable for large apartments and houses;
  • concealed installation is possible.

Flaws:

  • not suitable for housing with standard and low ceilings;
  • the need for additional space, false ceilings, boxes for installation;
  • the price is significantly higher;
  • all rooms will be cooled evenly, this moment cannot be regulated.

Multi-systems

General characteristics.

  • Here, a single unit of the condenser-compressor type serves a number of air conditioners. Evaporators can be installed in different rooms.
  • It is possible to regulate the temperature level in the rooms within the limits of heating or cooling. The number of service premises is from 2 to 8.

In turn, the multi-split system is divided into two subspecies:

  • fixed, there is a certain number of modules in the kit, which cannot be increased;
  • type-setting, it is allowed to complete an individual character with different blocks.

Advantages:

  • the facade is not cluttered up, a special room for installation is not required;
  • silent;
  • energy saving compared to other powerful systems.

Flaws:

  • failure of one module leads to the failure of the entire system;
  • different modes of operation of the modules are not provided, only heating or cooling;
  • difficult installation;
  • the cost is quite high.

inverter

General characteristics.

  • Differs in a possibility of adjustment of frequency of rotations of the compressor engine.
  • The inverter allows the system to run constantly, but at different speeds. In turn, the level of speed depends on the temperature in the room.

Advantages:

  • does not allow excessive load;
  • longer service life;
  • very quickly creates the required temperature, accurately maintains it;
  • silent;
  • consumes little energy;
  • works well for heating.

There is only one drawback - the high price.

There is an additional classification in which split systems are divided according to signs of a secondary nature. For example, systems for allergy sufferers or design options.

Systems for people with allergies have a softer filter that keeps out even tiny dust particles. Therefore, pollen and other hazardous elements do not enter the room. Some models also have an air purification function. Two types of filters are used:

  • fiokalitic-zeolite, destroying odors, harmful chemical elements, microorganisms (serves up to 5 years);
  • plasma type - creates a high level of voltage, ionizes the air, removes odors (the service life is unlimited).

Among the advantages of such models is complete and high-quality air purification, among the disadvantages is the price, especially for systems with plasma filters.

Design options differ in appearance, they are original, they look spectacular in the interior. May be different:

  • mirror;
  • non-standard color;
  • imitate stone, wood, metal;
  • have ornaments, prints;
  • imitate reproductions.

These models allow you to create a non-trivial interior, but their price is higher than for standard models with the same parameters.

How to choose according to the area of the room?

To choose the right air conditioner and not be disappointed, you need to consider many criteria. Climatic equipment for a one-room apartment is different from systems for large cottages. In addition to determining the area, the number of apartments that will be cooled, it is necessary to take into account the complexity of cleaning the device, additional functionality. Design is of no small importance, regardless of whether equipment is purchased in a small or large apartment. To choose a system taking into account the area and number of rooms, it is recommended to take into account the following parameters:

  • for a 25-meter area, a wall-mounted system with a power of about 2.6 kilowatts is better suited;
  • a multi-system for a 2-room apartment is impractical in terms of cost, it is better to purchase 2 separate air conditioners;
  • if the equipment is purchased at the repair stage, it makes sense to consider the channel type option;
  • if the power is not enough, the air conditioner will have to work constantly;
  • when there is more power than needed, the system may turn off and on too often;
  • equipment is ranked in British thermal units, one of which is equal to a third of a watt (the designation is indicated by the corresponding indices);
  • the formula for calculating the required power is 1 kilowatt per 10 m2.

If the ceilings have a standard height, then the indicators that you need to focus on are as follows:

  • index 07 is suitable for rooms up to 20 sq. m;
  • 09 - from 21 to 26 sq. m;
  • 12 - from 26 to 35 sq. m;
  • 15, 18 and above - for large areas.

If the ceiling height is higher than the standard, the power of the split system must be more serious, otherwise it will not work efficiently.

In order for the equipment not to work at the limit of its capabilities, about a quarter of the designated power should be put in reserve.

In addition to the area, the location of the rooms matters:

  • the direction of the windows to the south, south-west is approximately 1/2 in plus to the power;
  • the same applies to the upper floors;
  • the direction of the windows to the north or to a permanent shadow allows you to select equipment with a power that is less than required by about 10%.

What body material is best?

When choosing a model of climatic equipment, you should pay attention to the material from which its body is made. The condenser-compression type unit faces the outdoors, so it is very important that operation in such conditions is not disturbed by external influences. The most common models are:

  • plastic;
  • metal.

The most durable, reliable in use are metal cases. Experts recommend giving preference to metal. As for the indoor unit, it is mainly made of high quality plastic. When choosing a model, it is necessary to take into account how resistant the material is to sunlight.

In this case, the case will not fade and will not change its color even after many years.

Other selection criteria

A good air conditioning system for a home is selected according to various parameters. First of all, power is taken into account, it is also necessary to calculate the cold performance. Other important criteria include:

  • the presence of a heating mode - it will come in handy in the off-season, when the heating system is not yet functioning;
  • noise isolation - if the air conditioner is too noisy, it will interfere at night, the optimal level is up to 30 dB;
  • air cleaning - filtration is necessary not only for those suffering from allergies, but also for children, the elderly and everyone who cares about their health;
  • the functions of ionization and humidification provide a favorable microclimate in the room.

How to choose a split system, see the following video.

Which of us in childhood in the sweltering heat did not want to be in some fabulous way at least for a moment ... in the refrigerator ?! Today, adults also have such an opportunity - all that is needed is to have air conditioning in the house. Who knows, perhaps it was the life-giving coolness that envelops us when we open the refrigerator door on a hot, suffocating day that led the inventor to the happy idea of creating an air refrigerator? That's right - air coolers! - and the press called the cold air generators, which appeared back in 1961.

Strictly speaking, air conditioners are called equipment for cooling the air in the room. This, and the only one, was their function at birth. However, they soon acquire a remarkable ability to work in the "reverse" direction - that is, if necessary, on the contrary, to heat the air in the room. Of course, air conditioners are not suitable for the role of a “furnace”, at a low minus outdoor temperature, the heating function does not work. But in the off-season, when central heating has not yet been launched, and there is not enough heat for comfort, air conditioners of the “winter-summer” type, included in the heating of the room, can turn out to be very, as they say, in time and place.

In the Soviet Union, home air conditioners appeared with the launch in 1975 in Baku (at that time the capital of the Azerbaijan SSR) of the Baku Household Air Conditioners Plant (BZBK). At that time, it was an ultra-modern enterprise, created under license from the Japanese company Hitachi. So, Soviet household air conditioners cannot be called “soviet” (in the sense of insufficient quality). By 1985, BZBK produced up to 500 thousand unpretentious and durable air conditioners a year, of which about 150 thousand were exported (to China, Iran, Egypt, Australia, Cuba and other countries). The needs of domestic consumers were satisfied according to the residual principle. It is clear that, of course, there were not enough “remnants” for the entire Union. And the prices for the vast majority of Soviet consumers were, frankly, unaffordable. Even without “overpayment” (such a euphemism then meant a bribe to the seller for the sale of scarce goods “from under the floor”, that is, out of turn).
The first air conditioners were monoblock. That is, they were made in the form of a single block, which was installed in the window. It is clear that the bulky "windows", which occupied almost half of the window, did not add aesthetics. Moreover, no matter how clever you are, it was not possible to provide ideal insulation when inserting an air conditioner into glass. Yes, and the noise of the working monoblock was such that the “refreshing coolness” hit the ears so much that it soon became not a joy, but rather a burden. In any case, not everyone managed to fall asleep with the air conditioner running.

Over time, climate monoblocks were replaced by the so-called split systems. This equipment consists of two blocks. A block with a loud compressor (which is the basic element of an air conditioning system) is taken out of the living space - mounted on the outer wall of the house or on an unglazed balcony (loggia). In the room itself, there is an indoor unit with a fan that works almost silently. There are several such internal functional blocks (we will talk about this below). The external and internal blocks are interconnected by an electric cable and a freon line.

Everything under control, Or how an air conditioner (not an inverter) works

The temperature sensor of the indoor unit periodically measures the temperature in the room, comparing it with the one set by the user.
When fixing the discrepancy between the actual temperature in the room and set by the user by 1-2 °, the control unit turns on the compressor.
The compressor runs at maximum power in order to bring the room temperature up to the temperature set by the user in the shortest possible time.

The compressor turns off when the temperature in the room reaches the value set by the user, in order to turn on again as soon as the next temperature rise is recorded. And so on throughout the work. Which for a conventional air conditioner (not an inverter), in order to avoid breakdown due to incessant on / off, should not exceed 8 hours a day.

How to choose a split system

Btu/h This parameter, which is increasingly indicated in operational documentation, puzzles many consumers. This is still a little-known abbreviation for the performance parameter, calculated in "British Thermal Units". This value is easy to translate into kilowatts we are used to, based on the fact that 1 W is equal to 3.412 BTU / h.

Power is the most "talking" and "promising" parameter of household appliances in general, and air conditioners in particular. It is its value that largely determines the functionality of the equipment. And, accordingly, determines its cost. More powerful, more productive equipment is always more expensive. And more "eats" electricity during operation. Therefore, simply chasing power is not worth it. Here, both “underweight” (deficit) of power and its “overweight” (redundancy, as they say, “in reserve”) are undesirable and fraught with unpleasant consequences. So how, then, to be able to find the desired equilibrium "golden mean"?

The most simplified and, accordingly, very approximate way is by the area of the room that falls within the area of responsibility of the purchased air conditioner. We proceed from the fact that ten "squares" of the area require a power of 1 kW from the air conditioner. According to this calculation method, in order to create comfortable temperature conditions on the scale of a 25-meter room, you will have to fork out for cooling equipment with a capacity of 2.5 kW. But this, we repeat, is a very approximate figure, and it may turn out that these “relics” will not be enough for you, as they say, for complete happiness.

The problem is that power depends on many factors. For example, it is necessary to take into account the volume of the room, the area of windows, the intensity of sunlight (south or north side?), the number of people usually present in the room, the presence of heating devices and heat-generating equipment (for example, computers, etc.). And that's not all the nuances. Therefore, ideally, you should first consult with a specialist who can take into account all the factors and verify the really optimal power of the air conditioner you need. However, today on the websites of manufacturers and sellers you can find calculators that help more or less accurately determine the power of the air conditioner you need.

Energy consumption, or what will happen to us for it?

When buying power-consuming equipment, it is imperative to find out “what will we get for this?” What are the energy costs of running it? More "gluttonous" technology is cheaper. But we pay for equipment once, and for electricity - for the rest of our lives. And it - electricity - tends to become more and more expensive every year!

Meanwhile, as market research shows, not all consumers, when purchasing household energy-consuming appliances, “on the shore”, think about what it will cost them to use the purchase in terms of electricity costs. The main criterion for our choice is the lower price compared to analogues, and as a result, it turns out that by buying cheaper electrical equipment, we doom ourselves to pay for its incredible energy appetites for the rest of our lives.

It is logical that, having fully felt during operation, what it costs to use the turned out to be too “gluttonous” air conditioner, and, having made sure that this pleasure was not quite affordable for them, people are forced to switch to austerity mode. That is, in order not to spend money, they refuse to use electrical appliances, even in situations where they are really necessary and for which they purchased them. For example, to languish from the heat, but to the last pull with the inclusion of air conditioning, so as not to go broke for nothing.

But today more and more electrical appliances are supplied with a label that informs about the energy consumption indicator, which gives the buyer the opportunity to choose an electrical appliance with the best price-to-energy consumption ratio.

In the near future, there is reason to expect the adoption of the TR UES "On the requirements for the energy efficiency of electrical energy-consuming devices." With its entry into force, energy-consuming devices will begin to be assigned an energy efficiency class. Assigned not according to the manufacturer's declarations and not "by eye" (as is the case now), but according to the results of objective tests in specialized laboratories. But this requires such laboratories.

One of the first laboratories for testing household electrical appliances in terms of energy efficiency was created at Rostest-Moscow, where it became possible to test air conditioners and heat pumps (air-to-air, air-to-water and water-to-air), ducted air conditioners and fan coil units ( two-pipe and four-pipe) with a power of up to 15 kW by the calorimetric method.

The test complex consists of two rooms with controlled temperature, in which there are two climatic chambers with the ability to maintain the temperature in the ranges from -22 to 55 °C and from 7 to 45 °C.

Based on the test results, such important energy efficiency parameters of electrical appliances are determined as heating capacity, cooling capacity, energy consumption, COP efficiency factor (the ratio of useful thermal energy produced by the air conditioner to the electricity consumed (spent) by it), energy efficiency coefficient EER (the ratio of cold power and power consumed) and seasonal coefficients (SCOP, SEER) in accordance with international standards ISO 5151:2010, EN 15218:2013, EN 14511:2013, EN 14825:2013 and EN 1397:1999.

And in the heat, and in ... the cold!

The fact that air conditioners are able not only to cool the room in the heat, but, on the contrary, to heat, if necessary, is probably known to everyone who intends to purchase such equipment. And he expects to use the purchased air conditioner as heating equipment in the cold season. And sellers, as a rule, do not dissuade them from this. And in principle they do not sin against the truth. It’s just that they don’t always agree that air conditioners for the most part work effectively in heating mode at an outside air temperature of + 7 degrees. When it's no longer summer, but not yet winter.

Rostest-Moscow specialists, who study split systems in test chambers both in hot weather (7 to 45 °С) and in cold weather (-22 to 55 °С), testify that as it gets colder, there is less and less sense from such an air conditioner as a heater . For the best models, thermal output (strictly speaking, efficiency) is reduced to 70-75%. The critical temperature point is minus 15 degrees outside. At this temperature, conventional air conditioners are powerless. But there are also not ordinary ones - adapted for operation at low temperatures. In them, the outdoor unit of the air conditioner is heated. Still, you should not count on air conditioners as full-fledged heating equipment. Especially in the climatic conditions of a cold long winter, when the heater must work for a long time in continuous mode.

How many air conditioners do you need to be happy

The number of air conditioners needed in an apartment (house) is determined by the number of rooms in which you intend to create comfortable temperature conditions and, therefore, require air conditioning.

However, if there are rooms whose windows face one side, then the purchase of a multi-split system may be an acceptable solution. This is equipment that allows you to hang several indoor consumer units located in neighboring rooms on one external (outdoor) unit.

Considering the option of a multi-split system, one should not lose sight of the fact that the outdoor unit, designed for several rooms, must have an appropriate power resource. Keep in mind that the installation of such an air conditioning system will require the installation of long air ducts (which are decoratively hidden by suspended ceilings), which, of course, complicates and increases the cost of work.

The multi-split system option is not suitable for rooms with windows facing in different directions. There is another fly in the ointment: the disadvantage of such a system is the inability to adjust the temperature separately for each room. That is, all rooms will have the same temperature. Imagine how inconvenient it is if in the air conditioning line, say, a children's room, a kitchen and a dining room ....

Noisiness

An important parameter is the noise with which the air conditioner works. Few people think about this at the stage of choosing equipment. But in vain! An overly noisy air conditioner will encourage you to limit its use. You will have to choose the lesser of two evils: to bathe in stuffiness or “breathe deeply”, while putting up with noise ?! At night, many will simply be forced to give up air conditioning because of the noise that does not allow them to fall asleep.

SNiP sets the maximum permissible noise level at 34 dB. However, air conditioning can be considered truly comfortable, the noise pressure level of which does not exceed 25-30 dB. There are also quieter ones, almost inaudible. Leaning towards a non-inverter type model, at best, you can expect 32 dB of noise. Much less noisy (from 19 to 21 dB) are inverter-type air conditioners, which we will discuss in detail below.

There are air conditioners that support the so-called "quiet" mode of operation with the sound signals turned off.

Inverter as the last word in climate technology

It is difficult to resist the urge to purchase an air conditioner with an inverter compressor control board at all costs. Of course, if the budget allows such a purchase: an inverter climate split system is 1.5 more expensive! But for this we are promised: more accurate maintenance of the set temperature in the room; increased level of energy efficiency (low power consumption); less noise and vibration; increased system reliability and longer air conditioner life; more favorable temperature conditions (without sharp, leading to colds, drops in the temperature of the air flow during operation in cooling mode).

What's the focus?! In a smooth change in the speed of the compressor engine during operation and, as a result, in an equally smooth change in its power.

However, let me explain. We said above that a conventional, non-inverter air conditioner turns on and off from time to time to maintain the set temperature. Moreover, it turns on at full power. Then, having gained cold, it completely turns off, so that after a while it turns on from scratch.

Such, let's say, "hysterical" nature of turning on the air conditioner with 100% compressor load is accompanied by sharp jumps in electricity consumption when starting at starting currents and high loads on the power grid; leads to rapid wear of the compressor from regular switching on / off; sharp fluctuations in room temperature; the occurrence of cold (dangerous for those present in the room) air currents during operation in cooling mode.

All these flaws are to a much lesser extent inherent in inverter air conditioners, in which the power changes smoothly. The sensor monitors the temperature in the room continuously and, when a deviation of 0.5 ° is fixed, smoothly, “delicately” increases the compressor's power, without forcing it with a 100% load. When the set room temperature is reached, the control unit does not stop the rotation of the engine in the compressor (as in a conventional air conditioner), but only slows it down to 5% of full power.

A conventional, non-inverter air conditioner cannot be operated for more than 8 hours a day, which with a high degree of probability can lead to its accelerated breakdown. Users are warned about this in the operational documentation. But for air conditioners-inverters, there are no such restrictions, they are not afraid of long loads ...

We talked about the advantages of inverter air conditioners. But the scale of quality has another bowl. What are the disadvantages of inverters?

Let's start with the fact that the electronics of the control unit is painfully sensitive to electrical voltage drops, and in many regions we have just trouble with this. Since the outdoor unit of inverters is more massive and overall, its installation is more complicated, riskier and more responsible. Finally, they are more expensive.

Where is the air conditioner

If you are purchasing a non-inverter air conditioner, then its location must be carefully planned to avoid systematic hypothermia. Otherwise, you will not be able to use the climate system. Install the air conditioner so that the cooled air blows at the feet, and not at the head of the bed. To the side of the desktop, from the play area in the children's room.

When using an inverter, the risk of catching a cold is reduced to a minimum, since the air flow has a higher temperature.

In any case, the blinds must be fixed so that the air is not directed directly at people.

And don't be fooled into thinking that air conditioning makes it optional, eliminates the need for regular ventilation.

So, what you need to know and consider when choosing an air conditioner

Almost all air conditioners are equipped with such modes as cooling and heating, ventilation, air purification and drying, automatic temperature maintenance and air flow control, remote control ... Today, this is a standard set of options that will not surprise you.

If you are willing to pay for additional, yet “non-standard” and still pleasantly surprising pleasures, then the list of possible benefits can be continued. These are the "winter start" system, "spot" cooling and heating, air ionizers, kahetin filters, plasma cleaners and more. Moreover, the “other” appears from modification to modification. By releasing one model, manufacturers already know how they “charm” the consumer when they begin to promote the next generation product.

The programmed obsolescence of household appliances (as this technology is called in marketing) encourages consumers seeking to keep up with life, to upgrade existing equipment all the time. Therefore, the service life of the equipment produced today, determined by the pledged reliability, does not exceed the time of its obsolescence. This is no more than 10 years. This is the estimated life cycle of today's domestic air conditioning systems. Compare with the Soviet Baku air conditioners, which in some places “fury” to this day, but at the same time there is hardly an owner of such a rarity who would not look with envy towards modern split systems.

If cleaning isn't for you

The filter element system requires periodic cleaning and, if necessary, replacement of consumables. It is unlikely that there will be users who like the fuss with cleaning filters. But it is necessary not to breathe poorly purified air and at the same time not to overpay for electricity.

However, now this can be avoided if you are willing to pay extra for the self-cleaning function of the filters, and strictly speaking, for the presence of an automatic cleaning system for mesh air filters. All you have to do is empty the dust container.

Breathe deeply!

OXYGEN ENRICHMENT OF AIR

It is known that one of the problems of a modern city apartment is the lack of oxygen. For normal well-being of residents, an oxygen concentration in the air is required at a level of at least 22%. But in fact, the presence of vital oxygen in the gas composition of the air in our homes rarely meets the requirements of the norm. Experts testify to the registered facts of oxygen reduction to 18% and lower indicators.

It is in the "oxygen starvation" caused by these circumstances, doctors say, that the causes of various kinds of ailments often lie. And in order to avoid these troubles, they are urged to monitor the performance of a functioning ventilation system! And ventilate the room regularly.

The need for efficient ventilation and systematic ventilation does not replace conventional air conditioning. Emphasize the word "ordinary". Not so long ago, split-systems equipped with oxygen generators appeared. Moreover, the enrichment of the air entering the room can be carried out both in the process of its cooling, and, if necessary, in a targeted independent mode.

AIR IONIZATION

If you have ever stood at a waterfall, then you could not help but notice how good, easy it is to breathe here. However, not only at the waterfall - the air is amazingly fresh in a coniferous forest, in the mountains, at sea, after a thunderstorm ... The secret is in a high concentration of negatively charged ions in the air.

Of course, in the fiercest competition for the consumer, air conditioner manufacturers could not help but try to adopt such a function as air ionization. There are those who have succeeded. So if the idea of ionizing the air you breathe seems attractive to you, then when choosing an air conditioner, ask if the model is equipped with an ion generator?

AND DON'T FORGET TO ASK FOR THE SAFETY CERTIFICATE!

The long-awaited summer is coming soon and many of us will start thinking about purchasing an air conditioner that will help us escape from the summer heat. The most optimal and rational solution is a split system - a type of air conditioner that allows you to create a comfortable microclimate indoors in hot or cold weather.

The split system includes two blocks - internal and external (evaporative and compressor-condenser, respectively). Such air conditioners are presented in several versions:

  • Columned. They look like columns and are installed on the floor. Such air conditioners are usually used in spacious rooms of a large area, as they provide a very powerful air flow.
  • Cassette. They are mounted in a suspended ceiling and distribute air in four directions.
  • Channel. This type of split system is also suitable for large areas. Installation is carried out under a false ceiling.
  • Mobile. These devices are compact in size and easy to install. Such an air conditioner can, for example, be taken with you to the country.
  • Floor. The most common option. Installation is carried out on the wall.
  • Ceiling. These air conditioners are ceiling mounted.

Do you use a split system at home?

YesNot

Now many manufacturers, both well-known and not very well-known, offer a wide range of split systems. Each model may have advantages and disadvantages, differ in quality, efficiency, power, number of filters, additional options, etc. It is sometimes quite difficult to choose a worthy option, especially if there is no specialist nearby who could give useful recommendations.

Minuses

So, the leader of our ranking of the best split systems in 2018 is the inverter air conditioner, which is distinguished by a high level of reliability, efficiency and quality. This model has a very low noise level (22 dB), which is typical for devices belonging to the premium class. The body of the indoor unit is made of high-strength, fade-resistant and health-friendly plastic.

The split system belongs to the A+ energy efficiency class. The developers of Mitsubishi Electric paid special attention to this point, since the air conditioner in Russia is most often used mainly at medium and low loads. It is these modes that have been carefully designed in order to increase seasonal energy efficiency.

The system is equipped with a new generation inverter type of control. Also, advanced aerodynamic developments were introduced into the device - the indoor unit is designed in such a way as to reduce the noise level to a minimum. The assembly of the unit is of very high quality and even at maximum power when the air conditioner is running, there are no extraneous noises and sounds.

  • Produced in only one color version.

We use this split system in the bedroom, where low noise level is very important. This air conditioner makes almost no noise during operation, which is very pleasing. The assembly is reliable - nothing creaks, does not crunch even at maximum mode. Otherwise, the system has all the most necessary functions and there are no extra bells and whistles in it. The quality of the work is top notch and definitely worth the money. Deserved first place in this ranking.

We will be very happy if this top of the best split systems is useful to you and you make the right choice. We will be grateful if you share the article on social networks or leave your opinion in the comments.

Buying an air conditioner is not a problem today.

But what do you need to know to make the right choice? After all, this will not only allow you to create a comfortable environment in the room, but also eliminate the need for frequent repairs. We've compiled expert advice.

The choice is yours

1 To choose the right air conditioner, you first need to decide on the size of the room and its location (whether it is on the sunny side or in the shade). Depending on this, it is already necessary to choose the power of the air conditioner.

One square meter of the area of the room should account for 100 watts of unit power. And if, say, an air conditioner has a cooling capacity of 2 kW, then this is enough to create a comfortable environment in a room up to 20 square meters (provided that there are 1-2 people there and there are no heat sources).

2 There are different types of air conditioners: floor (mobile), convectors and split systems. A mobile air conditioner is easy to move from one room to another, it is often equipped with the function of air purification and ionization. But there is also a drawback - you will have to regularly pour water out of it, which settles during condensation in a special compartment. In addition, the outdoor unit does not differ in quiet operation. And it is convenient in that it does not need to be installed by making a hole in the wall. Accordingly, it is not necessary to call the masters, which is cheaper.

3 Split systems are the most popular. This type of air conditioner not only cools the room in the heat, but also heats it up in the winter. In addition, such a system does not clutter up the room. The split system is installed under the ceiling and fits into any interior. In addition, if air conditioning is needed in a large apartment or house, you can purchase a multi-split system that will allow you to set your own temperature in each room. True, this miracle of technology will cost 2-3 times more.

4 Another plus of a split system is ease of installation, because all home air conditioners operate from one external unit, which means that walls will be pierced through only in one place. But we must remember that it is impossible to cool one room and simultaneously heat another. All indoor units must operate in the same modes: either cooling only or heating only. If you need independent temperature control in different rooms, you need to install your own air conditioner in each room.

5 Experts do not advise focusing on the country of origin. The price practically does not depend on this.

Santiago Lema, a consultant on household appliances at the GFK-Rus Marketing Research Institute, notes that inverter air conditioners are gaining popularity in the world, which can reduce temperature fluctuations. But in Russia, their distribution remains low, the expert says, most likely because of the price - an inverter is on average 10 thousand rubles more expensive than a conventional air conditioner.

6 Do not try to save money by installing the air conditioner yourself. Non-professional installation is dangerous in that equipment damage and even structural collapse are possible. And the installation company that you invite must have a license and documents confirming the qualifications to provide such services.

It is important to remember that air conditioners require owner's care - at least once a year it is necessary to change the filters so that pathogenic bacteria do not accumulate inside.

In rooms through which many people pass, this procedure should be carried out even more often, advises Sergey Boytsov, director of the Research Center for Preventive Medicine. More exact terms can be found in the instructions for use.

Multiply by two

Prices for equipment for a 20-meter room start at 12 thousand rubles and go far beyond a hundred thousand. But these are not all the costs that you need to be prepared for. Installation can be up to 100% of the cost of the air conditioner itself.

Installing a device for 9 kW will cost about 8 thousand, if the installers are invited in the same place where they purchased the equipment.

In one online store, the correspondent of "RG" was told that it is possible to install for 5 thousand if you delve into the variety of installation companies. However, the cheapest installation that we managed to find costs 6,600 rubles.

By the way, if installers offer you to get an installation permit at a reasonable price, run away from them - since March, installation permits have been canceled.

Sellers do not advise buying equipment and ordering installation from different companies. In this case, all warranty obligations are shifted to the installers.

The manager of another household appliances store is convinced that in case of any problems with air conditioners, installers are to blame in 99% of cases. But not without reason, one can assume that such "statistics" are just a publicity stunt.

Claim a license

The head of the International Confederation of Consumer Societies, Dmitry Yanin, believes that trading companies, shifting warranty liability to installers, thus impose installation through their own company. But there are no complaints from consumers about such behavior of sellers yet, says Dmitry Yanin.

In the event that both sellers and installers refuse to solve the problems that have arisen with the air conditioner, the chairman of the board of ConfOP advises contacting the manufacturer, who in any case is responsible for the equipment produced.

by the way

In addition to the health problems that air conditioning can cause, in many offices it also leads to quarrels in the team. According to a survey conducted by the Superjob.ru portal, 30% of employees fight each other in the summer because of the air conditioner. More often such disagreements occur in women (32%) than in men (30%). Ladies complain that men are hot, and they get cold from air conditioners and “pull on” sweaters. Men, on the other hand, joke that women are cold because of "an unsettled personal life."

Alternative

In addition to air conditioners, there is also an easier-to-use and affordable device for creating comfort in the room - a fan. It does not cause disputes, and there are fewer subtleties in operation.

The press service of one of the major retail chains involved in household appliances told the RG correspondent that, in quantitative terms, sales of fans are significantly higher than air conditioners. Their prices fluctuate greatly. The cost of basic models is up to a thousand rubles, a high-tech fan can cost 20 thousand.

To extend the life of the fan, you need to choose a device with a minimum number of moving parts, experts advise.
