In Crimea, a unique relief, nature has created on the territory of this peninsula many forms and objects, both aboveground and underground. Crimean caves attract not only extreme sports enthusiasts, but also ordinary tourists, there are even accessible ones for beginners and non-specialists. Often, the size of the cave does not depend on how impressive it will be inside, for example, the small Yalta is no less impressive than the largest Red. When visiting the caves, you need to remember the safety rules and understand that we are visiting nature, take care of everything around.

Sight

This cave is located near the cable car leading to Ai-Petri, so it is quite popular to visit, it is easy to find it by the signs, leaving the cable car to the observation deck. The second name of this cave is Ice, because the temperature here is like in a refrigerator - 10 degrees all year round. In the center of the cave is a meter-long snowdrift, tourists often throw coins into it, making a wish, and under it is a floor of compressed ice. It was also called Vorontsovskaya, they say that it was from here that ice was mined for the table of Count Vorontsov, whose estate is located at the foot of Ai-Petri in Alupka. The name of the cave comes from the entrance: it was formed in the form of a failure with three entrances, which were compared with eyes. A staircase descends into the cave, along which, observing safety precautions, it is necessary to descend backwards. In winter, the entrance to the cave is locked.

After historical vicissitudes, Crimea has again become popular with tourists. The Russian resort is famous not only for its picturesque coastline, mountain range, healing air and original seascapes of small towns. Crimea is known for its caves and grottoes: the number of objects open to the public has reached 1000.

A number of natural creations are equipped for excursions. Most of them are concentrated in the region of the Ai-Petri, Chatyr-Dag, Karabi, Dolgorukovskaya mountains. The caves in the Crimea are real stone palaces, and excursions to them are remembered for a lifetime.

Yalta

It was opened by a child. More than 20 years ago, a boy threw stones into a crevice and noticed that the sound of their falling was not heard for a long time. Then the speleologists began to work, having determined that in this place during the Neolithic period, the sites of ancient people were organized. Having explored and prepared the grotto for visiting, they opened it in 2007.

The stalactite cave consists of two halls, but only one is freely accessible, 180 m long. Daredevils can get into the second by breaking a 40-meter well. The entrance to the first hall is open in summer, in winter there is too much snow in this area. But the guides recommend not to forget to take warm clothes with you, even if the tour is planned in the summer.

You can get to it by cable car, sitting in a cabin in Miskhor and reaching the last station. From there, following the signs to reach the object will be easy.

Kiik-Koba near the Zui River

The rocky natural structure of Kiik-Koba also belongs to the caves of the Crimea, open to the public. The grotto was discovered by archaeologists in the first quarter of the last century under the guidance of the scientist Gleb Bonch-Osmolovsky.

The remains of a woman and a child, as well as flint tools became evidence of the organization of the camps of people who lived in the era of the Mousterian culture in this place. Bones of rare animals were found in the grotto, including a cave bear, a giant deer and a saiga antelope. The dimensions of Kiik-Koba are small: only 50 square meters, the grotto consists of two halls.

The stone dungeon is located 8 kilometers from the village of Zui and the river of the same name, not far from Belogorsk. You can get to the sights by bus from the village of Kurortnoye, but it is better to use your own transport.

Emine-Bair-Koba on Chatyrdag

A rocky dungeon is located on the Crimean plateau Chatyrdag, it is sometimes called the "three-eyed" because of the three entrances resembling eye sockets. The first mention of the grotto dates back to the middle of the 20th century. Crimean caves hide a lot of surprises. In the unequipped part of the dungeon there are two mountain lakes. There are two ways to visit the underground creation:

  • pass the excursion route: 70 meters in 20 minutes;
  • overcome the speleological route twice as long using special equipment in an hour and a half.

The route is overcome by a group of no more than ten people, the participants communicate with each other by special phones.

The Chatyr-Dag Plateau is located between Alushta and Simferopol. It is possible to get to the cave only with an excursion group or by your own car. Experienced travelers are advised to use the navigator to get to the village of Marble, from this point, start the path upward following the signs.

Icy - Big Buzluk

The Karabi massif has concentrated many underground structures created by nature on its foothills. One of them: the Ice Cave, named so for a reason, it is constantly cold in it. Stalactites and stalagmites hang over the heads of visitors, forming an ice pillar. The second name: Big Buzluk comes from the old word for a bracket.

The caves in the Crimea are surprising, excursions to Ledyanaya will open the ancient grottoes with time. At the bottom there is a well, where, according to legend, Austrian livestock breeders who rented land in those areas stored meat, which was then successfully sold in the markets of Taurida.

It will not work to get to the miracle of nature along a direct route without a personal car, if only by taxi from Simferopol, but the price will be rather big. Experienced travelers advise getting by bus to Belogorsk, and from there to the village of Pchelinoe, from this point the path will be 25 km long: you need to negotiate with private traders or organize a hike.

Marble

According to the descriptions, this is the best cave in Crimea, the most beautiful, and the photos testify to this. It is located on Chatyr-Dag: it is a complex of three underground grottoes, considered one of the most famous in the world. The grottoes, the total length of which is 2 km, are millions of years old, and they were discovered 30 years ago by a shepherd who lost part of his flock in these places. Speleologists, studying the miracle of Chatyr-Dag, found that almost all of its space consists of marble limestone, hence the name. The upper terrace of the shelter consists of halls:

  • a gallery of fairy tales, in which visitors are greeted by frozen fairy tale sculptural compositions: Mammoth, Santa Claus, Princess Frog;
  • the tiger side hall, named after the remains of a tiger found in this place;
  • perestroika hall, where tourists admire the Minaret stalagmite
  • the palace hall, where a meeting with royal persons carved from marble awaits.

Halls available on the lower terrace:

  • Theatrical.
  • Luster.
  • Pink.
  • Hope.
  • named after Vernadsky.

Stone walls exude eternal cold, so tourists are advised to dress warmly.

When tourists are looking for which Crimean caves are open, the guidebook suggests this one. You can get to the place along the Simferopol - Alushta highway by bus. According to the signs, he turns to the village of Marble, and from there 8 km to the place on foot.

Ozernaya - Danilcha-Koba

A small natural shelter, its length is only 12 meters. The cave is called St. Daniel, otherwise it is called Weeping, in front of it tourists will find evidence of the existence of an ancient temple in this place. Parking is prohibited here, and it is impossible: it is too cold in Crying. Inside there is a small lake in which pearls were mined. The stalagmite, 280 cm high, located at the entrance, will resemble a giant mushroom.

The road to Danilche-Kobe begins along the Yalta highway, along which you need to get to the Grand Canyon, and then along the Yusupov road - a path, climb to Danilche-Kobe.

MAN on Mount Demerdzhi

The cave on the geophysical map of Crimea is found on Mount Demerdzhi. It got its name in 1963, when it was opened by young enthusiasts who were members of the MAS - the Minor Academy of Sciences. The grotto is not equipped for organized visits, but has historical value. Once it was a holy place. Here the people who inhabited ancient Taurida worshiped the gods and made sacrifices.

Archaeologists have discovered here rock paintings, a kind of altar and many animal remains that served as sacrifices to the ancient gods.

This is one of the caves in the Crimea, which can only be reached by car. The landmark of the rocky dungeon MAN will be the Angarsk Pass, from which Demerdzhi is within easy reach. At the foot of the mountain, a fork will begin, you need to turn right, go around the slope and MAN will soon appear.

Kizil-Koba

The Red Caves are the visiting card of the peninsula, a real underground 6-storey mansion with an area of 64,000 square meters. Its walls are painted in brick color, due to the content of iron oxide in them. Harmony reigns in Kizil-Koba: an underground river flows along its bottom, and a waterfall greets guests at the entrance.

On the route, tourists will visit the halls:

  • Griboedovsky.
  • Indian.
  • Chinese.

Their eyes will open bizarre stalagmites, such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Santa Claus.

Previously, there was a sanctuary in a rocky shelter, it became a tour in the 90s of the last century. Those who wish can not only go through the route, but also swim the rest of it in special wetsuits, the water in the river and channels is cold.

Kizil-Koba has gained extraordinary popularity in recent years, so trolleybus routes lead to it. In Simferopol, tourists can take trolleybus number 1 and get to the village of Krasnoe, from there a 30-minute walk will lead to the Kizilkobinka River, which has an underground structure.

Three-eyed on Ai-Petri

There are many caves on Mount Ai-Petri, but one of the most noticeable is Three-Eyes. It is a huge cavity with three dips, each of which you can go down on an excursion.
Three-Eyes is well known to historians: the ancient hunters kept their prey under its vaults, and pure ice from its depths was delivered to the table of Count Vorontsov. Therefore, the Three-Eyes has long been also called Icy: a huge snowdrift grows inside, where visitors throw coins for good luck, and the floor resembles a winter skating rink.

You can get to Trekhglazka along the Bakhchisaray highway. However, usually tourists choose a more colorful way: by cable car. The beautiful caves of Crimea, including Ice caves on Mount Ai-Petri, are available on video.

Iograph

The Crimean caves on the slopes of the Yalta Mountains are very famous, as evidenced by their pictures and descriptions. One of them: Iograph, named after St. Evgraf, is a functioning Christian church.

The length of the shelter is 18 meters, Iograph is located at the very top of the mountain, representing a vertical shaft. Once below, visitors will see a mass of stalactites and stalagmites, as well as natural recesses in which pearls were previously hidden.

Climbing the Yalta Mountain starts right from the city of the same name along the Uzenbash trail.

Emine-Bair-Khosar

The name translates as “well near the oak”, it is also called Mammoth because of the discovery of the remains of this ancient giant in it. Emine-Bair-Khosar stretches for 2 km and consists of five levels. The names of the halls are impressive: Crystal, Nocturne, Lake.

In the Mammoth Cave, the paleontological and mineralogical museums are open to the public in the upper halls. It is cold in the underground labyrinth: about 4-5 degrees.

You can get to the sights along the highway from Simferopol, having reached the village of Marble and go up the dirt road past the quarry to the top, Emine-Bair-Khosar will soon appear.

Soldier's

Crimea is a storehouse of sights and caves among them. Where they are, a mysterious atmosphere reigns. This applies to the underground gallery Soldatskaya, a natural creation named after the heroes who died in the wars. It was discovered in 1969 by Feodosia speleologists from the Kara-Dag society. Soldatskaya is famous for its records: the highest difficulty of passage, the deepest: 517 meters. It is not easy to get into the underworld: right at the entrance there is a deep well, at the depth of which a stormy river roars.
The main landmark from which it is easier to get to the object will be the city of Sudak. From it, tourists will reach the Uskut River, then there will be a turn to the village of Krasnoselovka, not far from it is Soldatskaya.

thousand-headed

Caves in the Crimea hide a lot of interesting things under their arches. Excursions to Binbash-Koba or the Thousand-Headed Cave will show the place where, according to legend, the population of an entire village died. People hid in it from the invaders, but no one survived, they suffocated. The invaders tracked down the people and lit fires at the entrance, it is said that 1000 people were in the shelter at that time, hence the name.

Almost all roads to underground shelters lead from Simferopol. Tourists go to Binbash-Koba to the village of Krasnolesye, where they go further on foot to the Chatyr-Dag plateau.

Skelskaya

The caves of Crimea are mainly located in the Ai-Petri area, information on how to get to them by car is available in guidebooks and on the Internet. Skelskaya stands a little apart, located in the Baydar Valley, at the foot of the Kara-Dag mountain. The cave consists of three levels, the lower one is almost flooded, and the upper ones are accessible to tourists: the route is 250 m. The attention of tourists will be attracted by unusually shaped stalactites resembling a church, a Phoenix bird. In Skelskaya there is a hall of ghosts, where bats circle under the ceiling.

You can get to the excursion object by car from Yalta or Sevastopol along the south coast highway to the village of Goncharnoye.

Crimea is famous for many interesting places. Among them, caves deserve special attention. There are a large number of them in this territory, each of them is unique and has its own characteristics. Since ancient times, people settled in them and used them for their needs. In this article we will talk about the caves of the Crimea, open to the public.

Caves and cave monasteries of Crimea on the map:

Three-eyed or Vorontsovskaya cave

Mountain Crimea hides a large number of caves. But not all can be visited by non-specialists. The most accessible - Three-eyed.

Three-Eyed Cave inside

There are more than 3 million years old, the depth is -30 meters. Occupies over 600 sq. meters. You can get inside it through 3 shafts - failures resembling three eyes along the ladder. Through one of them, located almost vertically, sunlight enters the cave; during the cold period - snow flies. It's always cold inside. The snow does not completely melt, even in summer there is ice on the floor. Ancient hunters kept the meat of dead animals here. When they shot the film "The Prisoner of the Castle of If", they painted the eyes.

Important! Before you go on an excursion, you need to take warm clothes with you, inside the air temperature does not rise to 10 degrees. In winter, the Trekhglazka is closed.

Yalta cave on the Ai-Petri plateau

The smallest, but incredibly beautiful cave. Traces of the life of people of the Neolithic era were found here.

During the warm period, tourists can contemplate numerous long stalactites that hang from the arches, like pasta. On the floor of the great hall, there are many stalagmites of incredibly crazy shapes. Walls in swells. Light from small electric bulbs creates an unimaginable play of light and shadow.

It is famous for its vertical well, 40 meters long, through which you can go down to the lower hall. Not every tourist can do it: only daredevils, in the company of a climbing guide, dressed in special equipment, will go down.

marble cave

The most visited cave in Crimea is located on the Chadyr-Daga plateau, not far from the village of the same name. It was formed in marble-like limestones, which is why it got its name. It is located at a depth of 60 meters, the length is just over 2 km.

Red Cave Kizil-Koba

The largest one is 20 km long. Red, because iron impurities predominate in the rock. Ordinary tourists are only accessible half a kilometer. It will be convenient to get there on a fabulous train, especially when it rains.

There is the possibility of an extreme excursion: put on a scuba gear and see the flooded passages and halls with your own eyes. Underground passages are located on six levels, with a difference of more than 250 meters.

Inside the cave are numerous lakes, wells, waterfalls, huge halls, as well as the largest stalactite in Europe, 8 thousand years old. Full information about the Red Cave (Kizil Koba) in Crimea can be found.

Cave monastery near Sudak

The ruins of the monastery lie near Mount Sokol. At the beginning of our millennium, Byzantine monks lived here - icon worshipers. Later the Turks ravaged it. But people have not forgotten about him.

In one of the three caves, there is a carved cross on the wall, and next to it is a shop. In the other, only the front wall and a few cells have been preserved. You can get there along the path along the steep slope of the mountain. From above you can see the sea. The place is also notable for the fact that a healing spring was found nearby.

Holy Dormition Cave Monastery in Bakhchisarai

This monastery was also founded by Byzantine monks. It is carved into a sheer rock. This holy monastery has an interesting history.

When the Crimean Khanate gained independence, and Russia received the Crimean fortresses, local Christians, due to harassment by the Muslim population, leave these places. The Russian commander Alexander Suvorov took an active part in the event. But three years later the monastery began to hold services again.

During the revolution, the monastery was plundered, and the servants were shot. During the Great Patriotic War, a hospital was located within these walls. The monastery was revived again after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The parishioners restored the Holy Place by joint efforts. They did a titanic work: they restored the stone staircase, the Assumption Church, restored the rock painting, erected a bell tower and much more.

Tepe Kermen - cave city in Bakhchisarai

A purely strategic building, arose on a cone-shaped mountain, at an altitude of more than 500 meters. Casemates, quarters for guards, cisterns for collecting rainwater were built in the rock. The city has more than 200 rooms of various shapes and sizes, located on six levels.

At the top there were living quarters and water tanks, at the bottom - outbuildings. The northeastern slope of the rock is decorated with a rock church. On the stone stairs from it you can go to the very bottom of the cliff. On the sixth level there is a tomb covered with a stone slab, on the fifth level there is a sacristy and a refectory, on the fourth level there is a crypt with a niche for an icon. There is also a chapel.

The second name - Emine Bair Khosar - is translated as a well on a mountain slope. At the bottom of the failure, a large karst cavity was discovered - now it is the main hall.

Location - Chadyr dag, lower plateau. The length is 1.5 kilometers, the depth is about 100. The halls and passages are illuminated, equipped with stairs with railings.

Here they found the bones of extinct animals, even a mammoth, after which the cave is named.

Stalactites form outlandish figures: the Cap of Monomakh, the Stone Flower, fairy-tale gods. Of particular interest is the two-level lake. The cave is deservedly considered one of the most unusual in Europe.

Shuldan Cave Monastery

Located near the village of Ternovka, it includes two churches and twenty rooms in two tiers. The main temple is made in the form of an elongated rectangular room. Altar in the shape of a horseshoe.

Shuldan cave monastery inside

In ancient times, the walls of the temples were decorated with frescoes, but they have not survived to our times. Recently, a chapel tower was erected, the dome of which is clearly visible from afar.

From the observation deck of the tower offers a wonderful view of the valley. The sight is told not only by tourists, but also by pilgrims. They are provided with cells for guests, where it is possible to spend the night.

Cave city Bakla

The northern city of Crimea is once an open medieval settlement. To date, almost not preserved.

In the sixth century, a castle was built here from large pieces of limestone, which was destroyed by the Tatar-Mongols. On the shore there are graves carved in stone, grape presses, waste pits, and artificial caves.

Cave city Inkerman

The ancient fortress of Kalamita, consisting of more than three hundred fortifications, is the hallmark of the city.

Kalamita fortress of the cave city Inkerman

The fortress itself did not last long, and the caves under it were preserved. Today, the largest wine-making enterprise of the Crimea is located here. Its underground cellars occupy 55 thousand square meters. Along with a local history tour, tourists are offered to visit wine tasting rooms. Also in the city is a functioning monastery. We talk more about the cave city of Inkerman in.

  • Tours for the New Year Worldwide

Crimea is so rich in interesting caves that many consider it to be the birthplace of Russian speleology in its modern form. The peak of research work in the Crimean caves fell on the 50s. 20th century, and at that time scientists discovered and studied at least a thousand large Crimean caves and a myriad of small ones. And there is no doubt that many more Crimean caves remain hidden from human eyes and unexplored.

I must say that those caves of the Crimea, which are the most accessible for visiting, alas, today are the most littered and spoiled by numerous crowds of tourists. And those that are not easy to get to, on the contrary, can be pristine and beautiful, but there is nothing for a person to do in them without special training and skills of a speleologist. In any case, do not neglect the services of a guide and do not forget to take warm clothes with you when heading to the caves.

Most of the Crimean caves are located in one of four regions: Chatyr-Dag, Ai-Petri, Dolgorukovsky massif and Karabi-Yayla. The most famous caves of the picturesque mountain Chatyr-Dag, one of the symbols of Crimea, are Marble, the entrance to which is located at an altitude of more than 900 m above sea level (according to some estimates, this cave is one of the five most beautiful equipped caves on the planet) and Emine-Bair -Khosar, which is part of the overall Marble complex and is famous for the legend associated with it. Ai-Petri is famous for the Black flooded cave and Ayu-Teshik. The most famous caves of the Dolgorukovsky massif are the Red Cave (Kizil-Koba) and Yeni-Sala. In this massif there are generally leading caves in the sense of underground lakes and siphons. Karabi-Yayla is known for the Big Buzuluk ice cave.

The mountain caves of the Crimea often melt inside a lake or river. The largest water-filled gallery is located in the Yeni-Sala-3 cave, its length exceeds 110 m. And the largest of the completely flooded caves is Black, its length is 1300 m. Another option is when the cave is not filled with water, but with snow or ice , and the whole year. There are about forty such caves, and the most famous of them is Big Buzluk, where the oldest ice deposits can be preserved for half a century, and picturesque ice icicles hang from the arch. Also well known is the Watering Cave and the Three-Eyes on Ai-Petri.

Other caves are not so interesting purely outwardly, but they surprise with riddles and legends associated with them. For example, in the Kaplu-Kaya cave, they say, a cradle made of pure gold was once buried.

And in the Thousand-Headed Cave, a huge number of human remains from the Middle Ages were found.

Cave Emine-Bair-Khosar.

Many people in Crimea are only interested in record-breaking caves. For example, the largest on the entire peninsula is the Red Cave, 16 km long, where you can also see the maximum number of tiers - six floors. It is also considered the most studied in the Crimea, because more than one and a half hundred scientific papers have been published about this cave. Or the deepest - the Soldier's mine, more than half a kilometer deep. The highest cave in the Crimea is Treshchinnaya, whose height above sea level is almost 1500 m. The largest rocky hall can be seen in the Marble Cave, its floor area is about five thousand square meters. m. This cave is also the most visited.

Those who are not looking for easy ways may be interested in the most difficult caves of the Crimea - such statistics are also available. The hardest thing to go through, not surprisingly, is the very famous Red, as well as the Soldier's. Routes through these caves are assigned category 4B. And the most dangerous cave in terms of accidents is Kaskadnaya on Ai-Petri: in 30 years, five tourists have suffered here, of whom two have died.

Recently, Skelskaya has taken the first place among the rest of the Crimean caves.

Many travel agencies specially organize trips here and here's why: the speleological complex in Skelskaya was created relatively recently, and so far it is clean, beautiful and there are not many people at all compared to the same, for example, Marble. The Skelskaya cave is located near Sevastopol, and it is easy to get here. At the beginning of the 21st century, the cave was equipped for tourism purposes, and in 2011 the latest electrical equipment was installed here, creating the first precedent of this kind in the Crimea. With the help of colored illumination, the bizarre calcite outgrowths of Skelskaya look very beautiful, and you can guess different figures in them: there is definitely a knight and a monk, a monkey and a dolphin, a dragon and a phoenix, and also, which is especially curious, Crimean sights, such as the Foros Church .
